Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Wow, I had a lot to catch up on again. I was considering keeping the nail polish idea for when I'm suffering severe study procrastination, but the idea of my daughter loose with a bottle of nail varnish after the chooks makes me think twice about that.

And then the cats might get done too.

I'm persisting with dry pellets and making the pellet porridge boring, so treats are given at a different time and they haven't starved yet which I'm taking as a positive sign.
We had five blue eggs, then none for a week and after I went to clean out the coop, it turned out that Sprinkles had made a hidey nest in there and was collecting her eggs. She's the only one to have done that, but after the clean out and loosing her collection, she seems to have decided to lay in the nest again. It still thrills me to see those little blue eggs.
I've been looking for a chook proof low ground cover for around the run. I'm hoping a low ground cover won't provide homes for snakes. Any ideas are welcome. Cacti perhaps?

I have had all sorts of dramas logging onto BYC for the past few days; anything I selected prompted me with a ‘No data’ error. Seems to be OK now so time for some catching up!

Tee hee Fancy yep, I followed that bra-hatch saga for a while. That pic of multi-coloured chicks is adorable; I want a light purple one!

Steampunked sorry to hear you have been hit by the egg drought. We have been an egg-free zone for 24 days now and yep Sam, I still love them

Nu2chooks15 good to hear you are getting eggs; well done!

appps I was contemplating worming my gals as they are due, not laying and the weather is cooler but the recommendation was not to worm while moulting so with Cilla still with the bubs and the other three moulting, they are going to have to wait a while. I will do it when the bubs are old enough and just do the whole flock in one hit.

smhoekzema yep; definitely moult-season here!

Tee hee Sam nice zoo exhibits! Are they rare/endangered?

No news of note from Bambrook Bantams.
I placed an advertisement on Gumtree for the three little ones I believe are boys. Because they are so beautiful, lots of people have told me to hang onto the two ‘Porcelain’ just in case but I really only have room for two more, so going with the two I am pretty sure are girls.

Also, Cilla is getting a bit sick of the broody-pen and looking to bust back out into the garden. This, plus integration will be much easier with only two bubs instead of five.

I am probably going to jinx them now and they will turn out to be boys, but the two I have decided to run on and believe are girls have now been christened with their names. The Frizzle is KiKi and the other is Crystal.

Wish me luck finding homes

I take it that's not native?

Teila, good luck with selling your extras. On the colour thing, I take cream as porcelain, but grey is lavender and dark grey seems to be blue. I don't think it matters though if they are cross breeds - the surprise is part of the charm.

So i think either the chickens have mites or the cat has fleas. Pics on google aren't helping me. I know what fleas look like but these seem to be smaller and only find them on me

Howdy AussieChics

When I had my run-in with a mite infestation (not sure if you remember my posts from back then) they were tiny and being old, I could only really see them with my glasses on; did not look anything like fleas and more like tiny, tiny spiders.

Sorry about the too much information to follow but they prefer to hang out in warmer areas of the body and if you do have a few, you can see them on the inside of undergarments; bras, undies etc.

Even talking about it now is creeping me out

; but we noticed we had a problem when we got itchy and I thought it was the new fabric softener I was using but nope, we had a mite problem.

The good news, it is fixable :)

I know I can never say we do not have some mites but after that episode, I have a mite phobia and probably over-prevent now rather than under-prevent
