Just back tracking to some posts I missed when I jumped on the FF-wagon; sometimes it is better to reply while a topic is hot and not hours or days later

Sidhe13 sounds like you made excellent progress with the roosting lessons, not bad numbers at all.

appps lols at the bedtime bickering; happens every night here.

Deej211 I am so sorry to read about your little one; it is a very good thing that the highs of owning chickens far out weighs the lows. It would be wonderful if we could have no lows.

I hope you have a turn of luck for the better also.

ChristieB sleeping chookens is always cute; regardless of the bad lighting; they look so content.

Congrats on the new additions; very nice! Lol at Hermione the sticky beak; they do not let anything go unnoticed.

I reckon buying chooks to break the drought definitely counts; I hatched them to break the drought and still have money on the bubs laying an egg before some of the other slackers in the flock

K Spot your Casanova tale gave me a good chuckle, thank you.

Woot woot Steampunked congrats on the drought break and from a rooster also

Anniebee I agree on throwing out the medicated chick start. I had some left over from the last hatch but tossed it and started off with a new bag for this hatch.

Wow cwrite that is one exciting day that I would not like to have here. Kudos to you for rescuing the dogs and caring enough to find them somewhere to stay. I have done similar on a couple of occasions but kept the dogs on a lead, out the front, well away from my cats and chickens and was lucky enough to find the owners quickly because both times the dogs were wearing tags with phone numbers.

News from Bambrook Bantams:
OK, ho hum, yawn, been there, done that but please indulge me for a moment as I am so very excited and want to share.

After much patience and weeks of planning, may I introduce all of BB’s flock in one picture(s). Granted, it is only on free range and the coops are still divided and will be for a couple more weeks but today I got to throw open both doors and let everyone out together.

No fights, no pecking, no bickering and I even got to sweep and do other stuff as opposed to watching their every move .. I am sooo happy!

Remember how I mentioned that I have never clipped wings and my fly-like-rocks bantams have never attempted to leave home? You can see how low the fence is in this photo:

Sweet success! Congrats Teila. I have a fence the height of a cricket wicket (which is what I'm using to keep it up) around my patio & it keeps everyone but Snowy and one hungry austrolorp out. Snowy can fly back out too. I never expected the little fence to work so well.
My front yard isn't fenced off or that would have been ideal. Hopefully I don't see strays again for a long time as I'm clearly not equipped to have dog sleep overs. At least it's all done and my cats have just come out of hiding. : )

Okay help plz. I have 2 silkies and 2 ISA brown adults. We have had chicks that my niece's child care hatched. 6 are ISA browns with unfortunately 4 are roosters. And the problem is the mystery black chick. I do not know its breed nor gender. I am just hoping it is a hen. Pictures in order as follows. 1. Peekok (silkie) 2. Princess (silkie) 3. Fillet (ISA) 4. Nuggets (ISA) 5. Group of the chicks 6. Group of chicks again 7. Mystery Black chick 8. Mystery black chick again.

Well for the first time in the 8 months since I got those 6 little chicks that were roosters I have an egg! And as predicted it was one of the newbies, as yet unnamed but I'm pretty sure it was the scruffy one. It's been years since I've had a laying hen so this is exciting!

Austrolorp or austrolorp cross would be my guess.

@@cwrite i just hope they dont live close by when their owners claim them and think visiting your backyard and chooks is the new way to spend their days when their owners are out!
