Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Congrats Christie - that's so exciting!  :ya
Seconding that & that it's a pullet. : )

Their owners never bothered to claim them.  The guy who runs the FB group picked them up, took them to the vet & dropped them off at their home - 3 doors down from where I live.    He then popped over to tell me that the dogs were fine & back with their owners.

Hmm think,I'd be making sure your chickens were well locked up for a while till you can be sure they won't be back to "play" while you are out.

@KerryF I have a hen that has had a similar problem for about 3 weeks. I just give her a little Asprin everyday and try to keep the other chooks from pecking at her too much
Thanks for the advice. After this time unfortunately she deteriorated and I now think it was Mareks also, but different progression due to being much older... or maybe just the injury after moulting lowered her immune system and she was unable to cope with a latent infection...? I just don't know but very, very sick of having to kill my friends and very angry that I bought from where I did in the first place.

And thanks for the links @TheChookPatch . Very beautiful birds I agree! I presume I'm not allowed to say where I got them, so will just say it was a so called "Farm" in Cranbourne. Happy to discuss via PM or FB PM is that's better. Nobody I asked was able to tell me where to go, one person suggested "AL" in Emerald but told me that they weren't very good they'd heard so it was all secondhand info. I came across the "farm" myself and wish I hadn't!!

Nothing to ruin your day like bathing and caring for a chook, only to then make the decision that there's nothing more you can do.

Will come back later and try and catch up on the pages I've missed once I feel calmer.

Wow, I go for a wander around BYC, come back and have 32 posts to catch up on … you guys n’ gals have been busy!

Thanks all for the congratulations and comments regarding my first successful totally integrated free range. This afternoon went well also.

Hi spicychicken42 apologies that I am really not sure what your mystery black chick is and will leave that to those more experienced in breeds than myself. I did, however, want to say that I love your avatar! Did you paint it?

Woot woot ChristieB congrats on the egg!

Oh no satay, sorry to read your quails are on strike now too! Nice to see that we have similar taste in beautiful chickens

cwrite sad to read that the dog owners did not bother to claim them but at least you now know where they belong if they do decide to visit again.

Nice egg basket chooks01. Your poor little rooster falling off the hens gave me a chuckle.

KerryF I am so sorry to read of your loss

No news is good news right? I have no news of note .. as I mentioned, this afternoon's free range was another success; a couple of little pecks here and there but no dramas. Crystal and KiKi's confidence in the garden has increased in leaps and bounds and they are no longer running back to the coop at the drop of a leaf

Cilla took them for another tour of the main coop, stopping at the oyster shell dish she picked up a couple of pieces, took took'd for them to take a look and then explained that they did not need them yet and promptly dropped the shell back in the dish .. moved onto the nest boxes, again explaining that "these are for later" .. so cute!

A couple of times I have seen the bubs run towards Dusty, get close and then realise "oops, wrong black chicken! That's not my mum!

At one point, Dusty, KiKi and Crystal were in the broody run together and Cilla was way over the other side of the garden; Dusty is a very good auntie and pretty much ignored the bubs while they ran around her.

Another egg this morning! Can't have been the same hen unless she had been holding that first one in half a day. I'm going with a second hen laying, I guess only time will tell.
I thought since they have external parasites I might as well cover internal as well, went I to the vet shop to get the flea powder (works out cheaper than Coles or woolies amazingly) and got a wormer, it's instructions are for small birds so I'm thinking I just increase the volumes? Any tips before I mix it up? Anyone know if this one would have a withholding period on eggs?

It says .5 ml to 20ml water so my middle of the night math says 25ml to a litre of water right??
Doubt I'll get any answers before I go to sleep lol, will check back in the morning

I use avitrol as well but the tablet one less wastage and easier to administer also a broad spectrum one. And no there is no egg withholding period on it

it normally says in the bottle if there is.

Is the tablet one designed for small birds like her liquid or does it actually say for chooks?

Just thinking if it's not specifically for chooks they aren't going to say withholding of eggs as who eats their pet parrots eggs that they would think to mention it :). So if it's for small birds rather than chickens specifically no mention of withholding eggs doesn't necessarily mean it's okay to eat them if that makes sense :)
