Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

It might be wet fowl pox.
If it doesn't get better I'll just give her ACV and spoil her with yoghurt and hope she pulls through.
I'm just worried coz she's an old girl and I'm not sure how strong her immune system is anymore.
Fingers crossed everything turns out fine though.

If she is still eating and drinking that is a positive sign. How long has she had symptoms ?

Am on 21st day on the incubator with 7 eggs. Its very cold where i live and the incubator has been fluctuating in temp especially the early mornings. I had one egg start with a small hole about 24 hrs ago and no more movement for about 12 hrs then it made a good go of it but did not break through and no more movement for another 8 or so hrs. I just took that one out the incubator and unfortunatelly itsdead in the shell. I have another that was doing the same thing small hole for last 10 hrs no more movement so picked at its shell thinking its also dead but isnt now i am worried i have done damage and it will die. None of the other five eggs are showing any sign of hatching.

This is the most valuable article on hatching you will find. It is very important that you observe
' lockdown' at day 18. This eliminates the fluctuations in temp and humidity caused by opening up the bator.

She is but she's struggling so I'm not sure how much she is actually eating. I'll have a feel of her crop tomorrow to see if she's filling herself up.
I noticed the infection in her throat about three weeks ago.
Do you know how long canker or wet fowl pox takes to kill a chicken?

You can help if you do it properly. Look for a thread called he said she said in the hatching forums. Ask amylynn about it. If the one that is pipped hasn't made progress by morning it will need help to hatch.

One more point, if it has been fluctuating below and not above the ideal temp it will make the eggs take longer to start hatching.

Wet fowl pox can persist for 5-6 weeks, if you can keep her hydrated and eating she might survive. If it is canker the metronidazole should take care of it.
This is a great thread on fowl pox. Kathy ' takes no prisoners ' so to speak and shows it for what it is. I hope that the pics she has supplied will help you in your diagnoses.

Thanks, i am new to this web (and incubating chickens) so don't know how to look for a thread. But have written the details down and will do a bit of searching. The incubator i am using is a friends, and have no instructions it's still rotating what happens to the process if the machine is still rotating?
