Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

DD and hubby just left for the north of the state. Loaded the horses in the dark and rain. Training with a World Cup rider , thankfully they have the use of an indoor arena as the forecast here is for snow, snow and more snow. My job is to feed all the other fury friends here and keep the fire going, geez gonna be a tough weekend. :D satay you'd love it here by the fire. :lau

:lau Actually I would. I love open fires. I wouldn't leave the fire at all but I would love the fire :love Actually I might peek out the window at some snow but that is as close as I would want to get to it.

Hatch completed. 15 chicks. 50% of set eggs, 75% of viable eggs

Congrats on your hatch :celebrate So far I have all but 2 marans out 18 out so far and 1 out of 3 Belgians I thought the second had hatched last night but it is still pipping. Sorry still no pics so far as @IamSamSam knows I can't get a decent pic in the light in this room for some reason. I'll try again later when I get back from Brissy. Taking son computer parts shopping this morning in the big smoke.

We are home finally! My princess has been so brave. It's been pretty rough though, the first hospital we went to reported it as suspicious so I had to go through so much questioning. Trying to remember that they have to do it and it's better for me to go through this than have them miss possible abuse is difficult when trying to focus on my baby and worrying about my other kids and my animals back home. She's in a hip spica, it is so heavy! But she's tolerating it pretty well considering. I reckon if she was older and more mobile it would be harder for her. Here's a few photos

Poor little thing. I'm sure your doing everything you can Hun. Hang in there Sounds as if your got things in hand and I wish your princess a speedy recovery.

hi everyone!!! its been wet wet and more flaming wet up here in fnq, i swear my chookies are getting webbed feet. my girls have been laying pretty well, 7 of 7 yesterday. they are getting their swing back, which is good as the next 3 doz araucana eggs are already sold. the new Roo is loving the lady time and is getting each and every one several times a day...maybe a few more hens wont hurt right? ha ha, think hubby would serve me up with divorce papers... we lost a polish girl on point of lay today, the kids damaged my fence and shes slipped out, the most docile creature in my yard, lets my 18mth old pick her up by the neck and carry her around (yes accompanied by mum yelling "quick!! Let her go!!!") and unfortunately not afraid of dogs (has naps and dust baths next to my staffy x) im hoping against hope that shes turns up no worse for wear in the morning but i wont be holding my breath... thought i'd put up some piccies :) not sure if i've posted these before though. :)
Shes back!! The neighbour spotted her little bobble head in the garden yesterday. Yay!! Safely in the breeding pen now. Whew! Thanks ladies for the lovely support. And foe enjoying my pics. :)

Oh poor baby. Yet still smiling, what a beautiful girl. :love

Hi all -

Am shamelessly borrowing Teila's way of doing things here ....
wink.png

* Christie B ... So pleased to know your darling baby girl is back home and doing well. She is a beautiful little girl.

* Congrats to all who have had successful hatches ... great news. .... I don't know how you all do it !!

* Teila ... thanks for the info. about crows ( glad you saved the little turtle dove - crows can be brutes ) .... we don't see too many of them around our home, but they are in abundance just down the road where there are food scraps galore at the back of the supermarket. It did cross my mind, a marauding owl - perhaps pounced on the rosella while it was roosting for the night. I am thinking to leave a couple of old towels and / or an old sheet on the line, to hopefully flap in the wind and drive away any predators. Washing doesn't worry the cockatoos, my chickens or many other species of bird, but I wonder about a raptor - ' washing' might impede any swooping - and they do swoop to gather up prey. ( or is that just wishful thinking on my part ? )

* Fantastic photo's of chickens and roosters here from all ... love looking at all pics.

* As for what happened to poor lion Cecil - I am not permitted to say here, what I would personally like to do that Dentist creep. It was so very sad, and so dammed un-necessary.

* Satay .... loved your story about your little Belgian girl who 'helps' with the gardening. Thank you for the comments. While I am not fond of the clean out of coops, it is made a fun thing to do, when the girls ( one in particular - Molly RIR ), get in and assist in the gathering up of deep litter, and 're-arranging' the fresh wood shavings and straw. I can only imagine what it would be like with a dozen or so hens, gathering around for the fun. ..... !!

,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Have a great weekend everyone - enjoy the weather, no matter what that might be ??? ... at least the massive winds have stopped here in Victoria. It has been vicious the last 2 days, and with rain. So wish it would be honest and snow here - at least that would be a different, nicer cold !!

Cheers,

OMG. I thought you meant a chicken broke it's leg as I came in late to the conversation. How did she do that! Poor little thing, hopefully it's a quick mend being so young.
