Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I didn't realise people euthanised roosters they didn't want! That seems like an awful waste of money, and vets time. I'd much rather give them to someone who can later put them in the freezer, it seems I have at least 2 of the daycare chicks that will be heading that way, the little araucana not showing any signs of course.

Hi Al! We are new BYC members and have just stumbled across this thread. So cool to see other Aussies conversing! Am currently hand raising for the first time (although we have kept chooks for 4 yrs), 5 3/4 Australorps and 5 3/4 leghorns. They r now into their 6 th week. Have always had a broody hen to do the hard work before :)

@IamSamSam. They look well padded. Hopefully I can have that good a hatch rate second time round too! Any tips for me?

Only that I sit or rest my eggs for 12-24 hours after I receive them This allows the egg insides to settle. Also I am trying this time something I read. I had 3 eggs with detached air cells. I read that you start to incubate but without the turner for the first 2-3 days. I have done that and now the turn is on. Apparently. This helps set the insides growing and orientates the air cell
