Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Just set polish eggs some buff laced some silver laced. One gold lace frizzle in the silver pen so I am praying for one of those !

It's going to be a long 21 days

For us both  After seeing these little beauties in person I can't wait to see pictures of your hatch. I might have to do a daily check with you or maybe with B

Just catching up as I was working on site yesterday so chookie chat had to be put on the back burner.

Got the rain coat on the run just in time yesterday afternoon when I got back and it looks like it might have to stay on for a few days. Before I fashioned the rain coat my we-do-not-like-rain sookies would just sit under the coops or covered areas I had for them within the run .. it is nice to see them scratching around the same as they would on a nice day, not getting wet.

Your Belgians are soooo cute satay.

Congrats on the stealth bubs V1cky; I can think of worse things than being overrun with chickens

kat79 I am sorry to hear about your loss

ChristieB I am pleased everyone is happy and healthy and also to hear that your little girl had a great birthday and that the pesky cast is off. Sounds like your chickens would be thinking it was their birthday!

Anniebee thank you for asking questions .. we all learn from the responses. I confess to being a paranoid chicken mum also

Congrats on your little bubs Fancy and congrats on another good day at the show with Yahtzee K Spot.

Adorable bubs Deej211. Love the little cuties jeffkerle65 and The Blind side.

Gorgeous bubbies everywhere!!

Still waiting for my eggs that were posted Monday. If they don't get here tomorrow I don't hold out too much hope for a good hatch as they will be over a week old plus shipped by the time I get them.

Australia posts ridiculously slow parcel service is making it hard and this is supposably their express post!

Apps mine were expressed from near Gatton on qld Monday I got them Tuesday. BUT I harassed the post office staff for them. Maybe u should do that

We are rural so it should be one day to the nearest major city then another to our rural PO centre where I pick them up from. Five days is ridiculous.

The guy in the post office is very nice so he said get the tracking number which I did today so will try and track them down if not there tomorrow. I don't know why I am paying for express if they are still going to take a week though grrr

I'm interested you shipped them by aus post. I'm in Sydney and I had a fella in Canberra wanting fertile duck eggs. I researched lots of couriers, my customer and I figured aus post would not get them there intact. How do you post them and how does it go? Much breakage? Good hatch rates?

To Satay, IamSamSam, and Teila ....

Thankyou for the replies, and for the thumbs up to asking questions ( even if they do seem weird to me !! ) .... you are all correct - asking questions is good, and replies are even better.. We all learn from one another. I have learned so very very much, just being a part of this wonderful BYC thread.

Everybody here is so helpful and kind - '"Chook peeps are the bestest" - would make a good T-shirt slogan I reckon !!

.............

To aaaps .... I do hope you get your eggs asap and in good order, through Aust. Post. .... told someone about that - and they refused to believe me, that eggs could be 'posted' !!! " How could the post office possibly ship eggs and keep them entact for an incubator or broody chicken ?? " - said they.

I still wonder about that myself. .... But from what I have read here, it frequently happens - and works pretty well. I can't imagine myself trying that caper - mainly because I don't have the chicken(s) or incubator to accommodate the eggs, let alone the wee ones, once hatched. And then there's the rooster factor. ?? ... The vet bill would be gigantic - having them put to sleep. Would have one possibility - a farm near Murchison ( Vic ), but I think he has so many roosters now for the pot, he ain't takin' any more at this time. !!

Just sayin' .... mini-thoughts into the future.

Cheers to all - and have a great weekend ...

I'm actually on the receiving end but I don't think it would make much difference by courier. Hubby has seen them unload the courier trucks and they throw the packages into the trucks when sorting.

Last time I got them I had one broken and two cracked but she really didn't do much of a packaging job. Just in an egg carton in a box with a few bits of rolled newspaper between the two (not even lots of newspaper). Had she packed it better, maybe a bit of styrofoam for padding think they would have all made it.
Only one hatched but we also put too many under the hen originally and didn't have an incubator ready for the extras so they were in it while I tried to set it up and it's readings were all over the place. So not sure it's all the posts fault.

The secret apparently is not to write eggs on it as that is an invitation to throw or stomp.

Mine are good. I get all mine by post. Mostly 80-90% hatch if they arrive intact

@Anniebee. I don't plan to put the roosters down. The reason I'm buying the eggs I am is because they are from a very good breeder and bloodstock from another state. I'm hoping that makes the roosters attractive to others breeding australorps and so I can find any boys homes.

I also have a backup plan of a friend on a large property that will take any boys or girls we don't want or can't sell. But I'm hoping I can sell them and recoup my losses on the eggs.

@IamSamSam. They look well padded. Hopefully I can have that good a hatch rate second time round too! Any tips for me?
