LanaDucky sorry to hear that the introduction to your hen did not work out … it did sound hopeful for a while there.

Not sure if I have shared before but the best and still unbeaten request I ever got was an e.mail which said "I do not know how to send an e.mail"

They should be fine appps. I put mine out full time here in the middle of winter at 3 weeks.

So when would you let them sleep out there? They have a little bathroom cabinet with air holes drilled at the top that we can lock up at night and its filled with hay. Do you think that once the rainy weather passes next week they could move outside day and night? We arent quite as warm as you :) I think we are getting about 15c overnight still.

@Teila thats hilarious!! Think u just figured it out ;-) would be my reply lmao

@appps yep 4-5 weeks (think thats the age u mentioned earlier) would be fine as long as they have that shelter and theres a few of them theyll keep snuggled for the night. I chucked my first lot outside about 4 weeks or so i think and they were fine theyll huddle. My just under 2 week olds are sleeping in the nesting box with hay next to mum instead of all under her already - possibly too big to all fit under her now haha and theyre doing just fine :)

Well im pooped! 2 birthday parties in 2 days. Got plenty of housework to be done but think ill rest and read some of my book before i get onto that :p hope everyone is enjoying their weekends and getting much better weather than those storms last week. It has been a glorious weekend here!

Our poultry auction was today and went to check out what was around. Wasn't intending to buy, but came home with 5 frizzle x silkie chicks, a nice frizzled bantam rooster, an injured silkie hen and 2 free silkie roosters

Omg, you guys have been talking up a storm. Appps once you have mild weather and they are acclimatized to the day temps they will ready to sleep out at 5-6 weeks. Our forecast for tomorrow is 12 and snow down to 600 m. Lucky I had the weekend in the garden.
