Hey Fancy, as I said, hoping they are OK and that they can either work it out or just give up on it for the sake of the children … it was scary enough just being an adult next door and I still have this ‘sick’ feeling this morning. I cannot imagine being a child watching that. I did not hear the children, I can only hope they were not home, or maybe hiding … poor little munchkins

In happy news-- I think the chooks liked having thier leg mites killed, and the move to a new coop area. Today is the first time sine shadows went broody in August that I got 4 eggs in one day. I have 5 that I know have layed eggs at some point and 1 I think might be laying. So I could possibly get up to 6 until the 4 hens that hatched August 1 start laying

I had never heard of porcelain anything ( except china ) .... and googled them. They are absolutely beautiful ... no wonder people don't part with them. I do hope though, that you
find a breeder who is willing to sell you some 'porcelains', or to obtain them some other way.

Actually - ALL chickens are beautiful. ( I am just a tad biased !! - aren't we all ? )

Teila ... You did absolutely the right thing - calling the police. And the fact that an ambulance came as well, meant that something had gone awfully awry there, ultimately.

Can totally understand your 'sick' feeling - gets into the pit of the stomach, doesn't it. Domestic violence - - - I try to support those against it as much as I can...

There are many websites devoted to preventing this curse. Rosie Batty ( Australian of the Year ) who lost her beloved son Luke to extreme violence at a cricket match, by her estranged husband. She is one I support. She is also a good friend of my daughter Louise. "Never Alone" is her website and and ongoing call for support there.

I think people should always call the police, in the case of domestic violence. They need never give their name at the time ( even though they will be asked ) .... just the address is sufficient, and some facts to underscore the situation.

Good morning Friends

sjturner79 I bet your chooks would feel much better without those mites; any form of nastie nipping at them must be very uncomfortable.

Thanks Anniebee with hindsight I know I did the right thing but sometimes it is difficult to gauge if you are being helpful or just interfering. Anyways, all quiet last night and hopefully will remain that way.

Anyone else spend heaps of time chopping up stuff for their chickens? Having bantams, I seemed to spend a lot time chopping up a slice of roast into bantam sized pieces or steak etc; sometimes 10mins or so chopping it, then constantly cutting into it with kitchen scissors to get it down to a size they would eat.

I couldn’t use my full size blender/processor etc because the amount we are talking about is not large and literally sat under the spinning blades, not even getting touched .. just a bit wind blown.

I tried two of those hand choppers where you put the stuff in the bottom and punch the handle on the top a couple of times but the meat just packed itself in between the blades and I ended up just bouncing the stuff up and down like some freaky show ride; no actual chopping happening.

I had seen an electric mini-chopper in Woolworths for $15 when doing the grocery shopping and each week I would look at it, shall I? Shan’t I? and I would talk myself out of it because it was not going to work either and moved on.

Then, after getting frustrated with this nearly nightly event, I made the decision that when I did the grocery shopping on Sunday, I would get one. Of course, after seeing them for weeks on end, that Sunday they had gone .. not a mini chopper to be seen on the shelf

Fast forward a couple of months to last Sunday and they were back! No second thoughts … "it is only $15 and will not take up much room in the cupboard when it does not work"

So, Sunday night, I put the slice of roast beef in the mini chopper with great hope … I gotta tell ya, this thing is my new best friend!! Three 5-7sec bursts and I have bantam bite sized pieces … OMG! Where have you been all my chicken owner life?

So, if you have suffered as I have and have a Woolworths that stocks the little mini chopper, I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Phew, getting hot here. Currently 33 and have just noticed that Friday its forecast to be 38 yikes!

Wow you put a lot of effort in chopping things up. I let my chooks make it bite sized themselves. They are quite capable of dismantling a whole pork steak, cabbage , lettuce or whatever. I usually just got to about 6 pieces so they don't fight too much over it.
