.... almost all on this thread are Aussies. Occasionally we have a visitor from overseas.

This is a fantastic thread with lovely, kind people who happily help, give great information, ask, offer and are responded to.

Enjoy your time here.

Cheers .....

Ta guys. They seemed to have done fine today at 33 but 38 is a whole lot hotter again, especially since most of their lives we have been having quite cool temperatures and they have spent time seeking out the sunny spots. I think I'll just bring them inside once the temps get over about 35 on Friday. It was actually two more than forecast today so could end up even hotter.

We are starting to heat up today supposed to be 38c today, 39c tomorrow and 40c on Saturday, I find my Aussies do ok with the heat but i do need to watch my Cochins and pekins.

It's the extreems as you say appps that you have to watch. Being really cool then a sudden rise can make any of them stressed. Sydney had 37C yesterday.

Good morning Friends

appps those are some hot temps … I hope everyone copes OK.

I have found that my Frizzles seem to suffer from the heat more than the others. If anything, Cilla and Dusty, both black, appear to be the most heat tolerant.

Ouch locknest4 I hope you feel better soon. Hubby suffered badly from sinus infections to the point he ended up in hospital. It didn’t help that we were smokers but when he got out of hospital, we gave up.

Hey there Cryssie nice to meet you and welcome to the thread.

Bambrook Bantams spoiled? That got me to wondering how many people:

Plan and prepare what the girls are having for breakfast the night before.
Buy mixed leaf lettuce or vegetables just for the chickens.
On steak night, buy and cook a tiny little steak for the chickens.
On hamburger night, make and cook 4 x hamburgers, 3 adult sized ones and 1 bantam sized one to be broken up and shared.
If the chickens can eat what we are having, cook extra just for them or if it is not something they can have, ensure that they have their own special breakfast.
Ensure that they never have the same breakfast two days in a row.
Always carve extra off the roast for the gals.
Buy eggs to scramble and feed to the chickens when they are not laying.
Ensure Saturday and Sunday lunch is chicken friendly and shared.

Hhhhm, Anniebee, I believe the gals may just be checked into the Penthouse Suite

Thank you for your post .. I do not feel so loopy now either and YES! sore hands here also from scissors!

I occasionally chop up a sausage for the gals; in fact, I have some cooked in the freezer as an emergency if I have nothing else to give them. I have only given them a very small amount of ham, maybe one or twice, due to the salt content and yep, no kabana etc.

satay, live meal worms are a huge hit here and every afternoon hubby sits with the gals and shares some out. The meal worms live in a blue ice cream container .. if anyone comes into our yard with a blue ice cream container they will have 6 x new BFF’s

My new BFF next to a 1 litre milk carton to give you an idea of size .. cute and effective

Your girls are certainly spoilt. :) I don't even pull the bread apart. They get the ham bone at Christmas, but I prefer them to peck off the size of ham that they can safely swallow. As with the danger of whole grapes , they will swallow and gobble up what ever you offer, so if you are chopping up all of their food, make sure it is very small. I went on our annual garden walk yesterday and as usual the girls came back here to have a glass of wine and check out the chooks. Sold some silkies and fertile eggs. Little Coro BB ( blue butt ) is doing really well, can't even see where his first momma pecked at his vent. He is very tame as a result of handling , very cute.

Hey Fancy thank you for the tip and yep, I chop everything very small; they actually leave anything that I have not chopped up small enough in that, at the end of the day, if there is any food left it is invariably something that missed a couple of chops and is not quite bite sized

Which will not be a problem now because of the mini-chopper.

Grapes are definitely a chicken trap .. they won’t touch them .. not bite sized

OMG! I have created fussy little princesses!

The garden walk sounds lovely and congrats on the sales
