Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Oh, sorry for the repost Luke. Didn't see yours.

DE is diatomascus earth right? I was reading about it and is sounds kinda scary. Super fine fosilized algae shell powder that is ninety percent silica? Does it not cause respiration problems?

Yeah, How ever it is spelt! Yeah He said you don't have to wear gloves just a face mask. But I was like..What about my chickens, Do they need masks.lol. It is supposed to be all Ala naturel, All the "hippies" and city folk use it here for their chickens..so it would have to be good for their "precious little things".lol.

O.K, So the person with the pullet rooster replied back to my questions about, WHAT is her chicken!

she said

Hi Luke
Sorry I did mean Maran.
I meant to indicate his age with “pullet” but he is a young rooster.
can send photo of parents if you wish.

I have never seen anyone say the age of their Rooster is a "pullet"..what?

Well darn Luke, sounds like its not the rare non crowing rooster pullet afterall lol

DE - read as many things for it as it not working so on the fence. Apparently dangerous if its not food grade which may be why some is dearer than others.

Breeds - when my kids were little we had an australorpe and 2 x RIR. Both were great kid breeds. My kids carried them round everywhere. In fact I recal chasing them out of my sons bedroom once after he had snuck them in :)

Not me mate- I have never used it. It is also used in swimming pool filters - may be cheaper to buy that way?

Ash, The stuff in used for pools will kill all my chicken.....lol. I have the food Grade Stuff.
Yeah, I was actually kind of disappointed.lol. I was hoping it was something cool!

Lol, well if the hippies and city folk use it, must be good :p I think I'll wait to make up my mind until I need it.

That person with the rooster pullet probably heard the word and was told it meant a young chicken or something and thought it applied to male and female. Maybe a bit of a language barrier too?

Ash, we're not ALL that tough :p

I did mention diatomaceous earth in my previous posts - you can call me hippy :) Some people do......
It did work for me. I bought a bag years ago and still have it. I only use a handfull in a bucket of sand and let my birds bathe in it. No parasite problems.
It is the food grade stuff. Don't buy the pool filter one! Very different.
Also, just use a little bit at the time.
Yes, you should not breath it in, but mixed in soil or sand it is fine, no different from ash, also recommended for bird bath.
I had a flea problem when I first bought my property, and DE got rid of it.

Hi Skippylove,

My favourite chickens for the kids are australorps. My 3 year old picks them up and carries them around, one day I found one in my bedroom!!!
They are friendly and are good layers. I have two australorps and they give an egg a day.
ISA brown are OK too, good layers.
