Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I just picked up a bag of frozen peas and corn

The corn of course gets eaten first. I find it useful for mixing medication into as well ;)

Potato Chip Thank you, and Beatrice is a Belgian D'uccle. They are a very sweet breed, and that fluffy beard is the best. Bea bonded to me very quickly, and loves to cuddle. About 5:30 each afternoon when she gets tired, she jumps up on my chair whilst I'm watching them all free range, and snuggles till bed time. It can be tricky putting her to bed, but as long as the others are in there, it's ok. She's like a toddler, it can take a few attempts to get her to stay though. Watching her run with those big feathered feet is amusing too.

Love D'uccles. I'm a recent convert. Love the way they run head down and stop, look about and run again.

Hi, I'd wondered where you were. Sorry to read you've been under pressure and have experienced loss. I understand pressure and being time poor. I recently lost most of my flock to a fox. We got the fox and are rebuilding numbers now.

Good to see you back on.

Good morning friends

Lol Fancy; dem chookens sure do be crazy! Glad to hear that your Silky suffered no ill effects from the mane hair … Dusty seems to be OK also, showing no ill effects from the soft plastic cap.

Fizzybelle yep, I am never complaining about the wind again! While not dropping the actual temperature yesterday, the wind was doing a wonderful job of keeping the humidity at bay. Beatrice is beautiful!

I definitely second the suggestion of damping down the surrounding greenery; my gals seem to enjoy the coolness and also lay on the damp earth. Watermelon was on the menu on the weekend here also.

Feather footed chickens are such fun when they run. Dusty [Bantam Langshan, which have a feathered outer toe] looks like a supercharged turtle when she runs

Hey Sam I was also wondering where you got to. So sorry to hear of your losses

Beautiful bubs MyHaven! Congratulations!

Another great day with the gals yesterday. I took the doors off the bug dispenser [aka compost bin] and they had a wonderful time. They definitely went to bed with full crops last night

I'm trying to catch up on events. Hello to all who have started posting since i was last on. Congrats to all for new additions, and sorry for all losses. Satay beautiful memorial. lBeautiful photos as always Fancy

Some people would think we're nuts for getting excited about eggs. I'm hanging out for my D'uccles to start laying. Did I say plural - I'm a victim of chicken math. I now have 1 grey, 3 Millie's and 1 cross D'uccle.

I've tried to restock after the fox decimated my flock. I have been hatching like a crazy person - because I always end up with lots of boys.

Remember a spunky little Pippy Longstocking - she's a boy.

So now I have 4 buff Orps, 2 speckle Sussex, 1 copper Marans, about 10 weeks. At least two are boys. An Araucana about the same age was given to me. And I started hatching quails.

The top pic is the dorking eggs due to hatch Sunday. They are gorgeous - pearly white.

I have half a dozen Easter eggers hatching as I write. One of them has pipped at the wrong end.[/quote}
Those eggs are pretty hope you have a great hatch :)

Good morning folks :frow Wow .. 3 days since I last posted. I have not been feeling my usual happy self, a combination of some not so good news at work in that some forced redundancies were doled out due to budget cuts .. I was lucky in that my role was deemed to be safe and coming up for 16 years of service may have had something to do with that also. However, losing some colleagues and in such circumstances has been a downer for everyone. That, plus I confess to not coping so well with the heat/humidity. I do not know if that is because we have been having more warmer days in a row than usual or whether it is just because I am getting older, but the heat/humidity has been such that I am cranky and at times, feeling quite unwell/drained. Winter can not get here fast enough for me. potato chip my Enabler detector is off the charts at the moment :lau …. At the risk of putting myself into ‘I want one’-mode, I would love to see some pictures of your “other cute birdies”. locknest4 I like what you have done with the panels .. looks good :thumbsup The egg scoop is awesome! Fancy the actions pics of Scarlet are great! satay woooo hooo Teila!!! :ya Great egg collection. Congrats on the new layers also Deej211. Oooh Fizzybelle I hope that first Agnes egg is not too far away :fl MullyAly I am not familiar with Marans but just wanted to say “Hi” :frow and welcome to the thread. MyHaven good to see you again! Looking forward to baby Dorking pics :fl :pop No news of note from Bambrook Bantams. KiKi continues to honk but I had a nice chat to my son about it. He agreed that trying to stop her was pretty pointless because, as we all knew, when she is not waking him up, the Crows, Cockatoos, Kookaburras and other assorted birds are. He is OK with closing his window and luckily has no trouble going back to sleep. That is a huge relief for me and has put my mindset back on a happy keel :) If it was not for KiKi and Crystal [the youngsters] we would not be getting any eggs. Dusty, Cilla, LuLu and Blondie are all moulting and apparently on holidays ;) Anyways, because it is probably going to be a bit muggy today, plans are just to potter and enjoy the company/antics of the girls. Oooops, almost forgot! Edited to Add: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLONDIE who turns 2 today .... Gosh that has gone fast .

Lovely blondie :)

Today was the day! Agne laid her first egg, check it out! It's so little and so cute, with a nice white shell. Probably need a few to make an omelet lol. So proud of her. She was making A LOT of noise leading up to the event though, and understandably so. She's about six months now. Now I guess I'll find out just how often she'll lay. Do Silkies have seasons, or just lay whenever all year round? Myhaven I hope the rest of your hatch goes well! Gorgeous little chicky there so far :D Telia, I'm with you on the heat and humidity, I've had enough. That storm last night only made things worse today. It wasn't much of a storm though. The sooner Autumn gets here, the better. I've been dunking the girls in a little cool water just before midday, and hosing the grass frequently throughout under the trees where they hangout (still off from uni for another week, hoping things'll calm down when I have to go back). It's just been a dry summer in Brissy this year.
:celebrate Gratz on your first egg. I agree on the weather we have had a lot more days over 40 this summer than normal and very little rain though we did get a lovely 40mm the other night but we could do with a couple of hundred more.
