Thanks, my silkies have been roaming the garden for 14 years. This past week I have been out, under the cover of darkness collecting up all of the Wyandotte youngsters and putting them into their respective pens. By the age of 10-12 weeks they are far too destructive and poop on the verandah.

I have lots of garden and I guess it depends on how much space you have , but apart from the occasional momma hen and chicks I only allow silkie bantams in the garden.

WOW such beautiful grounds. Sadly on the Gold Coast the closer to the beach you live the smaller the block you have. Ours is just under a 1000 square meters, which around these parts is HUGE (some blocks are actually smaller then 500). Nothing like your sprawl. Very lucky chooks!

What's with that? My backyard is HUGE, but my girls insist on sitting outside the back door and pooing all over the patio.

My chooks love destroying my mum's potted plants and pooping all over the veranda... at least they are polite enough to let me know by wiping their feet (loudly) on the door mat.



I used to have a rooster who would lead the girls across the veranda to the back door at five o'clock each afternoon. After someone looked out the door the rooster would lead the chooks down the garden and up to bed. It was kinda weird but I think it was their way of saying goodnight.

That is an awesome picture! Does the sea eagle spook the chooks?
I sometimes see sea eagles at my place but they are usually chased away by a magpie (a truly terrifying bird when in the breeding season :7 ).

Your property looks beautiful! My yard is pretty big but not large. It's bigger than most of the other yards in the area. The main thing about it is that there a massive blue gum next door and an even bigger one in our yard (along with a Queensland box gum). We often get plenty of parrots and any other large birds that the magpies haven't yet chased away.

Carla and the gang are out in the coop tonight and I feel totally ridiculous but I can't sleep. Hahaha!!!

My chooks 'duck' for cover when any large birds fly over. The Eagles will pick the ducklings off the front lawn , but so far they have left the chooks alone.
