I must have weird chickens too then! I gave mine some dried meal worms yesterday as a treat. They pecked at a few and lost interest. My dogs ended up finishing them off

I have lots of garden and I guess it depends on how much space you have , but apart from the occasional momma hen and chicks I only allow silkie bantams in the garden.
My favorite pic of our resident sea eagle.

Wow! How beautiful is your garden! Very nice work

Can you please tell me what those large pink flowers are?

Nice flock. Where did you get your Dorking chicks?

I hatched them. I've wanted dorkings for a while and couldn't find any. Then when I picked up my d'uccle Honey, the breeder had a dorking. It reminded me to look and by chance there was an add on gumtree. I asked the breeder if she'd sell me a half dozen and arranged for a friend to pick them up from the local markets for me. When my friend got them there were only five eggs and the woman said - no charge. She was north of Brisbane.

They are the nicest chicks. One didn't hatch and one had to be culled with a bad leg joint. I got two girls out of three.

I still have the ladies number if you want it. And also I know of breeders in Caboolture and Kilcoy.

I'll post pics soon as they have grown since I posted my last photos of them.

One of my chooks gave me a disgusted look when I tried to offer her an earthworm one time... I suppose she thinks that she's too proper to eat anything that comes from below her feet?
A different chicken nearly ended up choking on a GIGANTIC moth, and she was a pullet at the time so this moth was half her size.

If anything my chooks are weird. :7

Chickens will always put themselves to bed, as the sky grows darker.  They seek a roost or somewhere dark and warmish together.

Good luck .......

LOL! Yes you are right. Yesterday it was putting them in the run that took FOREVER!! Today I left them in the run (2m x 4m) seems huge for three small chicks so I thought it would be alright for the day. Threy walked into the coop themselves once it was dark enough I just had to close the door behind them. AWESOME!! Tomorrow we will free range them and see if they make their way back into the coop. Fingers crossed.

That's good to hear! My fingers are crossed for them as well! :7

I was literally just about to ask how your chooks did today when you posted this! I had a whole post written out and was about to click submit when yours appeared! Haha.

Yes the course went for about 3 hours on a small educational farm at Bowning about 45 min outside of Canberra.  Its run by a couple.  It was very informative.

Good on you I say!  All your research just shows that you care.  One of my girls had a minor mishap on the weekend and I cant stop blaming myself!  She had flown up on a bracket behind the shed and for me that was just too close to the top of my 6 foot fence.  So I gently put my hands on her back and gave her a little push as I said 'down you get please'.  Well...... she freaked out from me touching her, flew forward and caught her neck on the next bracket in front of her.  Her body went under and her neck went back (if you can picture that).  She squarked and carried on and ran away once she had hit the ground.  I went to find her to check on her and she was hiding behind an aggapanthus.  Of course she wouldnt come to me so I couldnt check her but as she is mostly white I could see there was no blood.  I felt like the worst chicken mum in the world!!!!!!  Im still not over it 2 days later :hit

Oh don't feel bad, I took our little Carla to the Vet today to get the stitch out of her bum after a friends dog had a go at her. Luckily she didn't get eaten.

I am seriously so jealous you got to take a coarse. I would have totally been into that but sadly nothing like that here. I do have the breeders I bought our chicks from helping out via email. Which is a great help. A friend just asked me for a little help as her neighbour is looking at chicks and I was able to give her a full on fact sheet, with breeder contacts about 20 different websites and pointers. I amaze myself sometimes.
