Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Ok so could totally be a coincidence but after a Carla cuddle today I had a tiny red bug on me. I had been in the garden so could have been something other then notes but still unsure.
I had to take Carla to the vet this afternoon to get her stich taken out and he had a look under a huge magnifine glass and lights and couldn't see anything. Could this be happening? What do I do now????

A red mite will come out at night from the coop and bedding. They don't stay on the birds.

I wouldn't worry about it.  There are a lot of tiny bugs in the garden.

I am such a paranoid android at the moment. My poor little cuddly Carla is just such a sweetheart I'm always worried about her.

Ok well that's cool then because it was around 4ish that I was holding her and we were no where near the coop. I also did totally drown the coop in surface spray before putting the chicks in it & it was brand new. Can mites just live in "bedding" it was a sealed bag of hay?

LOL! Yes you are right. Yesterday it was putting them in the run that took FOREVER!! Today I left them in the run (2m x 4m) seems huge for three small chicks so I thought it would be alright for the day. Threy walked into the coop themselves once it was dark enough I just had to close the door behind them. AWESOME!! Tomorrow we will free range them and see if they make their way back into the coop. Fingers crossed.

Yes - they are good at finding sleeping quarters. !! Don't expect too many miracles when they are free ranging though .... sooo much to see - sooo much to do, for inquisitive chickens.

Took my big girls quite a while to work out where home was, even with the gate open. I frequently had to round them up from wherever, and there was much confusion.

Mindy Araucana ? - she always knew - and knows, where her gate is for safety and warmth in her coop. Has never missed a beat on that score.

Cheers .. .......
