I got up to find 2 crows on my patio.  They had OPENED a bag of bunny kibble that was there and were trying to help themselves.  Seriously, cheeky.  I shooed them away and they came back, they don't care one iota where they go or what they do.  

I can't leave anything on my deck. The crows and magpies are cheeky as. The magpies walk into my kitchen and lounge room. But, now I think about it, they haven't come for weeks???

No, the sick crow was weeks before that. Curious though. Incubation periods vary widely.

Talking about cheeky, before the girls got sick I collected two eggs from one pen. Put them down in my feed scoop outside and turned to shut the gate. I turned around and one egg was gone. I cursed. Then I turned to open the next pen. I turned to grab my scoop and the second egg was gone.

Crows and magpies are very cheeky I saw 2 crowing to smash there way into a closed Chinese takeaway container that someone had left on a table outside. I have seen seagulls try and take chips of a table while someone was sitting there. Our wildlife is not so scared of humans anymore.
My sons neighbours have chooks and every now and again there would be a broken egg on there front lawn. One day when I pulled up I saw a crow flying over with an egg in its mouth.
I 'm sure they know were a good thing is and they keep coming back.

I use unbaited snap traps in a few spots that the chooks and cats can't step on them. I remove the half mice from them after they go off( the chooks, cats, or other birds have always eaten part of the mouse before I get there).

Dr Google says: Reservoirs of infection may be present in other species such as rodents and cats. (I have rodents and a cat who is always hunting in the run the rodents, I also have visiting cats.)

Many symptoms are the same such as
Dejection.
Ruffled feathers.
Loss of appetite.
Diarrhoea.
Coughing.
Nasal, ocular and oral discharge.
Swollen and cyanotic wattles and face. (Mine don't have swollen wattles)
Sudden death.
Swollen joints.
Lameness. (My girl that survived the fox snatch has wobbled a bit the last few days - but she hasn't been sure tooted since the attack)
Swollen joints - (I'll check that one out tomorrow, I hadn't found any during early inspections)

A young roo has developed symptoms today - raspy breathing. He was in the exposed but no symptoms pen.

Discovered a new symptom today - one started feather picking today. He's been sick for awhile.

It must be just awful for you, I can't imagine. I just hope they identify the pathogen and that it's able to be successfully treated without further losses.

That sick crow may have been the source, too.  Also, the stress of the fox could have reduced everyone's immune system. 
The d'uccles are "kneehigh to a grasshopper".  The bigger little girls (pekin type cross-breeds) could probably go higher, but the little little girls need it low down. 
The little coop doesn't have a door, the coop and run are combined.  I'd have to put the traps in the yard.  Whether the mice would come out when they've got the inside to go to, remains to be seen. 

When I used to keep the food inside their house I took a small plastic tote and cut small holes in the ends then put the trap inside it and put that in the house at night. Mice could get in but chickens couldn't. So long ago now though I can't remember if it worked lol

Good morning folks

mooandmcgee that was sweet of your hubby.

Remember how I said that the snap trap had been triggered, bait gone but no rat? Yesterday I decided to relocate the decorative bridge which is in our garden. The snap trap was set near the bridge the night before.

I found the rat, dead under the bridge. I confess to not examining him very closely because it was creeping me out, but there were no obvious wounds.

I find that a bit weird. Hubby reckons the snap trap would have killed him but if he was not caught in it, how would it have killed him? He reckons the snap could have given him a fatal blow on the way down but I am thinking those things are fast and if it touched him it would have trapped him?

I also found a half eaten gecko on the pavers, next to the chicken’s outside water container.

All very strange.
