Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Well now the pressure is on.. I will see what I can come up with. i did get a pic a while ago with the two youngest ducklings- but I will see...

I was just outside for a wander to the shops and decided because of the heat- I am having a lazy day. My daughter thinks I have to go shopping to get her last presents - I keep telling her I only have one small gift for her. Little does she know.. I am lucky that she loves to read- and enjoys the classics. I found one of those book stands that have $5 books- and loaded up for her. That sure made it easy to get a load of pressies for her for a fraction of what the books would have cost normal retails. Hemmingway, Wells and Steinback are some of the authors- as well as works by Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson. She is going to be reading the whole school holidays !!!

I have the new car... just an old bomb to get me around for now. Being that I havent had it long I dont trust it enough yet to go to the block...I really need to get up there- but may put it off for the week and go up for new year. My daughter has actually contacted a smash repairer to get a quote as she now wants to get the ute fixed up for herself to drive. So much like me at the same age- I did all the work on my own first car. An HQ.. Brilliant cars they were - built strong back then.

Ok...so how is this...

Merry Christmas to you all. I hope the weather turn out ok for you all and that you arent disturbed from your Christmas lunch to have to go outside to cool down your chooks and ducks.

I still need to pop out to the shops to get some watermelon and other fruit for the ducks for tomorrow- They need to have a special meal too.

Awwwwwwwwwwww.........that is so cute! Sorry to put you under pressure, but it was worth it!

My ducks have got watermelon and mango for Christmas dinner - they will be pleased! Hope the weather is kind to us,I have to cook a turkey, don't know whether to do it tonight or not!

Your daughters present sounds great,so few kids these days seem to read books,I am sure she will love it. And glad you have wheels again! How is the new very expensive girl settling in?

She is fantastic thank you for asking Wooklet. I was a little worried about her a few days ago and brought her inside for a swim. She is eating out of my hands- and loved the mangoes I put out a few days ago. It was funny watching her. She is as used to treats as my own ducks so was very cautious at first. There was about 10 mangoes in all- and by the time they were finished- she had mango pulp all over her face.

No point having a whole turkey here- but I did buy a breast roll. I am going out with friends for lunch to a Greek restruant for lunch then will come home and make a grand dinner for my daughter for when she finishes work. What is the weather forcast like for you down there tomorrow? If its a big turkey I would be tempted to cook tonight- but then you still need to turn on the oven tomorrow for the vegies and to warm it all up. The house I live in is fairly small- so the kitchen warms up quickly- but the lounge room with the air conditioner turned on is a great refuge on days like today. I dont have to start cooking until after 3 pm tomorrow but I want to do some preparation tonight.

Anyone else want to share their plans for tomorrow??

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I have two Christmas chicks and a zipper looking to join them. Have another egg I'm waiting to see some action from. I will have to post some pics, I've been averaging a chick a day for a while hatching the crazy broodies stolen eggs in the 'bator. Have to get their coops built pronto so I can give these babies back to them.

Terribly sorry to hear about your ute Ducky.

I'm glad you've got something to run around in now, no car is no fun. I hope you can find a suitable replacement for it soon.

Merry Christmas to you too Rare Breed. What a great christmas present from your chooks. I had to laugh a little at your hatching of a chicken a day- as I recently worked out that if I can sell a duckling a day- in a year I would be able to replace my ute!!

Hope everyone has had a great day. We ended up having a kind of white Christmas here in Melbourne with a hail storm hitting around 4 pm. I was a little worried for the ducks since I was at home at the time- but found them happily playing in the mud when i did finally make it home.

Merry Christmas everyone!! Ducky I hope you didn't get drowned. Are there any other Melbournians out there? I've never seen hailstones so big in my life. I'm at mum and dads and really hope my girls had enough sense to go up into their roost today - the storm was huge!!

Chickenmumma - I was in Williamstown / Hoppers and Sunshine areas during the worst of the storms - and so worried for my ducks. Most of them would have been able to get under cover- but I was most worried for Stevie-Ray my little blind girl. With the noise she would not have heard where the others went to get out of the hail and would have had no protection- she was fine when I got home- so if she was ok.. Im sure your girls will all be fine too. Dont worry too much about them- enjoy your holiday and time with your family,

Wow! Those must have been some storms you had in Victoria. Tornados,hail....glad all the ducks and feathered friends are o.k. hail that size could do serious damage to a bird!Sorry to hear about your veggie patch Mumma, but veggies can at least be replaced, chickens and ducks are too precious! We had a bit of thunder here last night, but only low grumbles. Hope that you all managed to get Chrismas lunch in before the lights went out!! Did you manage to get your daughters dinner cooked,Ducky? We had a cloudy morning so I rushed around getting everything ready while it was cool, pays to be organised(which I'm not usually)sometimes.

Bit upset tonight. I gave a girl 2 day old chickens for her broody, and this morning she sent me an e mail to say that they had both died. The others from the same hatch that we have here are fine,so it is something there. Don't think I'll do that again! Hope your chickens are going well,Rare Breed, sounds like a good hatch rate to me! We have another hatch due on Monday(all Malay game) then that IS IT FOR THE YEAR!!!!
