Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Howdy ThePoultryLife welcome to BYC and the thread, lovely to meet you.

Good luck with the hatch. We have a rule; we do not believe you until we see the pictures .. kidding! But, when your little ones hatch, I hope you are able to share some pics with us.

Hey Fancy, speaking for myself I am not sure “busy” is the right word .. maybe “waffling”

Sorry to hear that you have been under the weather but great news on Flossy. Beautiful horsey pic! Good luck with your quail hatch also.

No news of note from Bambrook Bantams, plodding along nicely. If you have not seen it already, the Poultry Shaming thread is fun:

Edited to Add: Anyone else been watching The Kettering Incident and the final episode last night? What The? If there is not a season 2, there is 8 wasted hours of my life that I will not get back

I don't think I've even seen that show advertised. Is it a free to air? Have pretty much given up on tv lately, seems to be nothing on hasn't been on 50 times before. It's like we went to non ratings season and never came out again. We've been watching the BBC wartime farm series through YouTube instead. Not sure how we coped before we bought the chromecast for the Tele :)

Hey appps it was on Foxtel ... we could not cope without Foxtel

Filmed in Tasmania, so the scenery was beautiful!

Ahh. Yeah we haven't gone pay tv because we aren't that big a Tv watching family but lately it's got ridiculous as there is nothing but the cooking channel isn't repeats it seems. The kids are nagging for Netflix but I'm not sure which way we will go if we do.

So, I think my little silkie Agnes might be going blind in one eye. She is booked in to the vets tomorrow morning for a general diagnosis, if it needs further investigation then off to the avian vet we go. My general vet though is fairly good with chooks. Anyway, the eye isn't swollen, it looks more like it might be irritated, but I couldn't find anything. There still might be something there, but I at least couldn't find anything. She was walking in circles a little this morning to look around with her good eye. There is no discharge from either eye or her nostrils, no sneezing, and she's eating like a little piggy (totally normal). She's been vaccinated for Mareks too. I think it seems a little cloudy, and she closes the lids a lot. I've started to use my voice more around her to let her know it's just me, no need to panic. I'm wondering if this is the source of her hollering lately, as she has quieted a little now. I do check their eyes regularly, and didn't notice anything until I saw her squinting when looking at the ground.

So we'll see what tomorrow brings. She sat on my lap this morning, snuggling into my dressing gown, she loves to cuddle up. Any thoughts as to what this might be? cateracts or some sort of injury like a scratch maybe? I'm sorry I don't know where the good camera is to take a clear, close up photo. We just got some furniture yesterday to sort out the office as things are still boxed from when we moved a few months ago.

Welcome to the Aussie branch of BYC, ThePoultryLife. Can guarantee lots of info and fun to be had here.

Good luck with the quail eggs .. ...

...............

To Fancy too, for your quail eggs hatchings. Lovely photo of your daughter and her horse. Glad to hear that your little silkie is well again too.

Perhaps now you can relax a bit after doing so much in the horse arenas.

.............

Agree with all, about dozens of repeats on free to air, although Foxtel does a fair bit of that too. ... We don't have Foxtel or Netflix as there are just not enough hours in the week to catch up with what I have already. I record things I want to watch later, and currently have 8 episodes of whatever to watch ( some time ).

Trouble is, the free to air seem to try and compete and mess one another up, so I rely on iView, Plus 7, and other channels that show on line - series that have been missed. Have found that YouTube often post missed episodes of various things as well.

Will try and find the Kettering Incident somewhere on line. Love Tasmania and its beauty, so would be interested to see it.

Cheers all .....

Good morning folks :frow We got 4 eggs from 5 gals yesterday, LuLu still being the only one not to return to laying. Thank you all for your kind words, I am feeling much better today, just in time to return to work ;) :caf Anniebee Yep, that is Excel. I have not heard any clacking from Chucky but he has taken to sitting in the Mango Tree and singing .. it is quite beautiful. He was singing to me this morning when I fed the girls but I told him in no uncertain terms that he is not getting breakfast also! lol I do not think you are nuts and will definitely growl at Chucky if he continues to swoop the girls. MyHaven I am not positive Chucky is a juvenile and here are some pics of him … I would be interested to know if he is similar to yours and what type he could be if not a juvenile. This is the adult I saw with him the other day and who he just watched with the carcass he had been eating earlier. That is the only time I have seen the adult [or other type?]. As others have said that they could not see the hidden images very well, I have not hidden this one but apologise if the carcass is upsetting for some. You can see Chucky watching the adult from the plant pot: [PS. My lawn is not totally dead ;) that is just the area under the Mango Tree which gets very little light and under which, not even the weeds thrive .. my tree fern however loves that spot and is thriving]
Thanks for the pics. The concealed photos were smaller and hard to see the detail. That looks just like the ones I've seen. Maybe the one I saw last week at my placers Chucky. I put it down to a different type of butcher bird but what Anniebee has researched sounds more feasible.

Welcome from Brisvegas.

My first try in jap quail I ended up with a 22 out of 24 hatch that are now middle aged and never developed sexually. Apart from 6 or so eggs, nothing, no mating, nothing - zip. Just eating machines.

I hope you have a good hatch. I'm going to try again soon.

Wow, you guys have been busy! We've had a busy week with horsey events and I too have had that awful sinus / ear infection.
