Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi all, hope everyone is well. I have tried to catch up but I haven't been on for a while. We have had a couple fo additions since I last posted. My Silkies are all grown up and so fluffy!

Grown up Silkies

Yep chicken math struck big time here but our bantam chicken family is fun and I am happy with the number we have now :)

Congratulations. Good choices. Not that I would ever think there is a bad choice.

Really?  Apparently being on holiday also meant having the brain switched off!  Where is the mega eye roll emoticon when you need it?!

If they are pet owners, I wonder how they would feel if their loved pet accidentally got out of the yard etc, got picked up by tourists and then dumped in a pound in a different state?!

Hear hear, not only different state - the other side of a body of water.

The shame of it is that the dog was not micro chipped or desexed so her chances were pretty bleak until Tasmanians were made aware of her. The Frankston pound refused to release her until the obligatory time had lapsed after she was surrendered by her abductors. She then had to be desexed microchipped and vaccinations . She has now been purchased by the wonderful people from Mangalore kennels. They have asked for people to contribute to her air fares and I have done so. What concerns me is that anyone can take an animal across bass strait , no question asked. Something seriously wrong with that.

Thank you. I got her from a place called Heritage Hatching and Hens in archerfield. I am not sure I'd go back there, she was pretty dirty when I picked her up! But she is a cute funny thing and has settled in really well, she doesn't mind a cuddle.

I agree with you. I got a runner drake from there years ago. While the drake was fine. I was less than impressed with the way they keep their animals.

Hey, Australia, the Little League World Series is now taking place in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA. Your team reached the playoffs, I believe for the first time ever. The Princess and I saw their last two games. They have been eliminated from further play, but made a good showing. You should all be proud and support the LL program at home. I think that I should have been born Australian - those folks knew how to have a good time. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - Aye, Aye, Aye rang boldly throughout the stadium. Congratulations on your team and the conduct of them and their supporters.

That is horrendous, there should be some checks.

Very lucky pup. What wonderful people the Mangalore Kennels must be. It does show the importance of microchipping.

Councils can be so rigid sometimes.

That is soooo cool. Thanks for letting us know. I for one had no idea we had LL team competing at that level.

I'll pay more attention and see if it's in our news.

We are a lot who enjoy our sport.

Take care.

So we are looking to get two guinea fowls for our yard along with our chickens but a breeder we contacted said we should get more than two as they are a flock animal. We really dont want more than two - does amyome else have two amd they get along well with your chickens?

Not personally but serveral people around the local area run one or two Guinea fowl. They are quite happy to consider chickens to be thier flock. You can let the breeders know you are running them with a chicken flock and they should understand. If you are not running chickens with your Guinea you need at least 4 girls. To run mixed you want at least 4 chicken hens per female Guinea. Guinea fowl boys and rooster are direct competitor so you can't run both unless they are hatched together.

TGIF. Tuesday started off like any other day with the morning completely normal - only to come home and find two broody girls (Grace my buff sussex who I have always thought would be a good mum as she has always been interested and chatty with babies when I have introduced them, and Honey my marans araucana cross. Both girls are less than 1yr old themselves). I would have to tweak the living arrangements whether I broke them or let them sit, so I left them sitting with 2 eggs each. I did notice this morning though that Grace has acquired herself an additional 7 eggs in the last 24 hours and is now sitting on 9 eggs

. I'm nervous to even check how many are there tonight.
