Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Teila are Crystal and Blondie related, or just happen to be the same colour? My own little Blondie look alike, Esmé is still clucky. If it continues to rain, then she can stay that way. One less chook to dry off if need be.

Hey there Fizzybelle

Cilla hatched both Blondie and Crystal but other than that, nope, they are not related

Blondie is still broody but I am not crating her. She seems content to be locked out of the nest box during the day, wandering the garden with the rest of the girls but sleeps on the cover of the blocked off nest boxes at night.

I fashioned a temporary roost which sits on the covererd nest boxes. In her little chicken brain she is sitting on the nest box but in reality she is roosting

Welcome to manualname .. and angela27  .... good to meet you both.

Love the pic of little 'Squirt' ... what a tiny little bub.

.............

Have had a fair bit to catch up on during this visit.   Can't afford to let too many days go by without visiting BYC.  Am trying to back off the computer a bit - so's I can get to the cupboard / wardrobe / drawers chaos in this house.   It has to be done.   I usually visit BYC first thing, but ... will probably only catch up a couple of times a week for a while.

So sad to hear you lost little Baldy LuckysMum ... after all that happened to her.    RIP Baldy.

Teila - just as well that Chucky has matured and is off doing grown up things.   You would miss him greatly, and he would miss you, if he were still so dependent on you.  Which he obviously now is not.   And that's a good thing for all concerned.   ....

And you could sing the old childrens' ditty "Four and Twenty black birds - baked in a pie" ... with some variations to the words that follow .... :lau

Weather is so very cold today, I have the heater on and a heavy cardigan being worn.   Need a hot water bag for my feet, and hands are freezing - even using the keyboard.   Snow reported in the high country here in Victoria today and tomorrow.  -1° to 6° C at Mt Hotham ??     Autumn is announcing itself all over the place, and the currawongs are calling their delight at it all - in fact they haven't shut up all day today. Hope Queensland returns to a low simmer, and gets good rains.  NSW is milder thank heaven.

No chicken news from here - all the same ole, same ole.

Cheers ~~

Such bizarre weather we are having. Your freezing and we had 40c on Saturday. Did get a tiny amount of rain on Sunday possibly 5mm or so I haven't checked the gauge yet.

Just wanted to update everyone on my little one... I ended up leaving the egg with the Mumma of the younger chicks and she accepted it fine. The wee bubba, who we've currently named Squirt, had hatched by Monday morning. We kept a very close eye on her during the first day, sometimes removing her when her new Mumma was scratching around a bit crazily. Day 6 today and Squirt has fit in with the rest of the crew and doing really well =)

Squirt is so lovely. Glad she /he has fit in well. My squirty the rainbow lorikeet has laid 4 eggs this year. Problem is she doesn't have a mate. I wouldn't get her one either as she is in love with hubby and i fear anything this else she would probably try and kill.

My babies (Light Sussex - hatched on New Years Day) are growing up fast! I THINK I have only 4 boys and that the other 8 are girls. Rather than clog up this thread I've posted photos in a new one asking if I'm right. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1154038/gender-of-7-week-light-sussex#post_18089302

How good is that? I set a dozen eggs and end up hatching 8 pullets!

I had a quick look as i did have Sussex for a while but it think i will go with fancy's guess as she is the sussex expert on this thread.

Looks like my blue marans has abandoned her nest. I am thinking the eggs were to old when she decided to sit. 1 was broken and didn't smell good. I have left the rest but will throw them tomorrow if she doesn't go back.
