Help! Is this a worm?
400
.
It's not moving or anything.

I'be got these
400

Which would be best to treat it with if it is?

Oh and can I syringe it in instead of adding to water? I've got Carl in isolation yet again and she isn't eating or drinking that great so not sure she will get a full dose the normal way.

My guess would be its internal lining. Doesn't look like worms to me but maybe fancy@Fancychooklady would be the best one to advise you in this.

Thanks! It was the shape got me wondering but I've always pictured worms moving. It is quite stiff as I pulled it out of the poop with a twig and it didn't really change shape. Lining would make sense with the crop problems again in both Carl and winry. It's always the faverolles too. Lot to be said for not breeding brothers and sisters I suspect

Doesn't make for healthy stock.

Hey appps Yep, does not look like a worm to me either but I am no expert. Sorry to hear that Carl is again having issues and Winry also :( The Forrest Beach Coop is in progress! We have wire LOL
Thanks. Winry is going to be ok I think she had more of a bloated crop and after 2 days feels pretty normal this morning and her poops look ok. Not sure about Carl. Hers I still more hard again and was just watery poop, which has improved to have colour at least. At wits end why these two keep getting it over and over. Seems every time I let my guard down and allow even a little free range, on mown lawn, back we are again. Crazy.

Hi all, I am based on the Gold Coast and just about to dive into the Silkie game.  I have chosen my coop etc and will be getting it online as it seems a lot cheaper, but where do I get affordable shavings for their floor. I poped into Pet Barn today and it was $60 for 2 bales...I am pretty sure that is over priced :) looking forward to some local expertise :)

Hi Candz
I live in Sunshine Coast and I recently bought silkie chicks to add to my flock. I have a sand base in my coop about a foot deep. I use construction sand as anything finer is no good for the girls. It's amazingly easy to clean, I just run a rake through it a couple of times a week and shovel sand over every 6 months. When you first start out you'll find yourself buying extra sand as the chicken poop starts to take a compost effect in the sand but after a few months it cycles itself perfectly. I use sugar cane mulch in my 2 x nesting boxes which I get from my local produce place.
Good luck with your new coop.

Welcome to kirrty and jc219 - you will surely enjoy your time on this thread.

appps .... that 'thing' looks absolutely horrid. You will be interested to see if anyone comes up with answer as to whether it is internal lining or a worm. So will I - so will a lot of us I think. I do hope Carl and Winry improve - or continue to improve.

Teila - well done so far, and good luck with the next two phases of your big move.

Cheers ~

Today is day 6 of incubation (counting the day the eggs were set as day 1). I ordered an automatic egg turner on eBay and it arrived yesterday but the incubator needs a plug wired into it. I decided that it would be silly to mess around with 240 volts (I'd do it if it was 12 volts) and may have to pay (!) an electrician to do it but I'm not interrupting this hatch. So at this stage I've put the eggs into the tray and it's much easier to turn them all at once now rather than having to turn 36 eggs separately.

In other news I've got as far as hacking a hole in the coop last night to install my homemade automatic door. I picked up some fence palings at Bunnings yesterday on half price clearance so I have timber for the door frame. I hope to get the frame and door installed this afternoon.

Good morning folks

Good luck with the hatch and install Sparky.

Welcome back Nutcase!!
Thanks @Teila ! My last hen recently passed away so I am fresh out of chickens but happy knowing that they all lived to a ripe old age. I decided to wait a bit and get a fresh start to see how I can improve how I handle the next flock, but now I'm ready and excited for some new babies
