Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yes my RIRxGLW are moulting too. We're getting an egg or two every couple of days from 5 hens and the pullets haven't started to lay yet. I'm not sure about the chooks loosing feathers at this time of year. A couple of them are fairly bald at the moment and we're expecting -2°C tomorrow morning!

In other news, I think my "Araucana" chicks are actually Cream Legbars. They're over 6 weeks old now and yesterday I thought I'd try putting them in yard with the big girls. There were no dramas so I left them for a few hours and after dark when everyone had gone to roost, I put the babies in the coop. Everyone was happy this morning and tonight they all went into the coop together with no argy-bargy. You've gotta love a smooth integration!
That must be a relief that they all getting on!

Yaay .... I have found my way back in to BYC - Aussie lot. Was very upset when it was considered "you do not have enough privileges to use this site" ( or words to that effect ) - not enough privileges. ??? That's what it said. Perhaps others had the same message ? .... anyway, now I can look, like, quote and reply and hope it continues. Had to change my email address, the original one fell off their grid somewhere ??? Hello again to all - and hope you all have a good weekend, ( most likely a cold one in many parts ).

Cheers .... :ya

Howdy Folks!

Sorry, I have not caught up on everyone’s news but just dropped in to say that all is OK, just really busy at the moment.

13 Sleeps to go before I fly out to our new home and am reunited with Hubby, puddy cats and chookens .. can’t wait! So much happening at the moment though, lots of packing, cleaning, final details etc.

I will be back in a couple of weeks when things have settled down a little. I miss you all!

:hugs

Good luck

Hi Teila ( and everyone ). ....

Take it easy Teila ... the packing and organising is stressful, but soooo worth it. Wonderful to know that in a fortnights' time you will be back with all that you love ( hubby, kittehs and chookies ). An ongoing adventure for you - in a totally new place of residence - ... and its' surrounds.

Best of good luck ..... :hugs

Susan H .... I have been buying eggs for several weeks now. Trying to be fair, I buy a 1/2 dozen free range, then a 1/2 dozen caged grain fed eggs. Am very surprised at how beautifully rich in colour the grain fed caged birds eggs are .... I have had absolutely no pale yolks in all my purchases. My 3 chookies are all still moulting and poor Molly RIR looks like something out of the "Alien" movie. So, of course - no eggs. I think little Mindy Araucana is thinking about it, but as she still has pin feathers growing out, I doubt it. She is rather fractious though, but is eating up a storm, with a massive crop at the end of the day ( gone by the a.m. ) ... am wondering if she is about to become clucky ???

Cheers to all ( at least to those who have managed to make it back here !! )

and up she goes 60 gum trees branches etc. Flames were higher than the gum trees at some points. Not much left of her now. Almost all cleaned up now just a few broken ones on the fence lines that are too high up for us to reach. Neighbors place you can see across the road from us in the pic.

Aliens....that's a good way of describing my girls Annie. And yes mine are ravenous! But gee the growing of feathers looks so painful and uncomfortable!
Thanks RoosterCogburn..., I will look into flock fixer. They currently get 'molt muffins' made by yours truly...hubby not happy cos I don't bake for him. They also get Organic yogurt with chia once a week, tuna and porridge twice a week, Quinoa all for morning snack...the afternoons they get wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and dried meal worms! And no board (eggs) ... am I over doing it?
Satay ...WOW.... glad to hear it's almost done ...sounds like a huge job!
