Hi all,
I have come for some advice because I am a little stumped.
My bantam sussex has gone broody, and as a result I have a docile toy chicken that I can accost for cuddles a couple of times a day.
With the closer contact I have noticed that she has some sort of mites or lice, specifically under the chin. I have seen tiny ones that are clearish/yellow an slightly larger ones that look reddy brown/black.
These are definitely on her, and mostly under the chin, some on the body. Not noticably more under the wings or near the vent, they are relatively fast moving (it is hard to 'catch' one), active during the day and though I have searched I cannot find any mites in the coop itself - certainly no clusters of them.
I am getting some drops and some dust (should be here by Friday I hope) and will be giving the coop a thorough clean this weekend, the coop itself already has DE everywhere and I rubbed her down with DE as soon as I realised she had mites, and added more DE to their dirt bath.
Once she snaps out of her broody trance she eats heartily, bathes, runs a round and has a good time. She scratches at her chin a bit, but not to the point of feather loss or anything.
Anyone know what sort of mite I am dealing with? Anything else I should be doing?
That's a great cause Sam. Hubby would be their for the drool factor of the cars if we lived closer. That's what you get for marrying a panelbeater I guess lol.
