Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

You can import from overseas HOWEVER, the cost is Hundreds of thousands. Avgen did 2 or 3 imports and lost one import because one bird tested positive for disease. Our Australian quarantine laws are very strict. So. Sourcing birds from Australia ..... GumTree !!! Or ask here !

Thanks. I'm yet to put sand floor in and the runs not done but the girls are happy.
And so they should be IamSamSam .... the coop looks great and your chookies look good and healthy.

Also ( just sayin' - to all here ) ....

It would appear that many of us have lost our 'climb up the ladder' ... most everyone now is labelled "chillin with my peeps" ... not that it matters really, but I always looked forward to getting that one step further up !! ;) And some seem to have lost their badges ( I have - my 4 year badge :( ), although they may come back in time ? .... and - being in slightly grizzle mode, I miss being able to put a word or two on the "like" now ... have tried several ways - not possible, so far !!

Cheers to all ~

Thank you for the welcome everyone, so nice to find some like-minded chicken mums :)

LuckysMum - sorry to hear about you loss :( it is always difficult.

IamSamSam - what gorgeous little chickies! My daughter wants either a Frizzle or a Silkie so I am sure we will add to the flock at some point.

Sparkie - we have a mixed bunch and I have just set 12 eggs in an incubator so it will be even more mixed (hopefully. this is our first attempt)! We started with one chicken (isn't that how it always starts HA!) .. that was part of a group hatched at my sons school. Not entirely sure what she is as he 'forgot to ask' and then term ended... I think 'Princess' maybe a Welsummer X .. I really have no idea but she is the largest of all my girls and the food hog.

We then bought 5 day old Arucana (possibly X, possibly bantam) chicks and ended up with 4 Arucana roosters (lesson learned) and a black bantam arucana lady. We initially kept two roosters (Rebel - a lavendar and Simon - Grey/Brown coloured) but recently had to remove Simon as he was getting very aggressive.. Shame as he was lovely but noisy too!

The lavender boy is lovely, much more placid and takes good care of the ladies.
Since moving to acerage we have since added 4 Hylines (Soy, Lemon, Apricot and Honey) and 7 rescue Isa Browns that we are slowly naming as we see their personalities/recognisable differences (so far we have Awky, Caramel, Baldy and Lonely Lucy .. who is picked on by the bullies in the flock).

Here they all are hoping I have some yummies for them!

Lovely chickens.

Finally seems we have been able to fix the marans pens so no more losses to the darn foxes. Down to 7 girls and 2 boys now so will have to restock once they are up and laying again. Getting some light showers today no where near as much as Brissy and the gold coast but any rain is good rain out here. I still have green grass which is very odd for us this time of year.

LuckysMum ... I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your lovely Cochin. They become very dear to us ... and it is sad to see one go. They seem to do that at any age - and your girl was getting on in years, wasn't she ?. RIP.

satay .... so glad to hear you have fixed the fox problem for your Marans. Green grass is sprouting again in Victoria which is good to see - and usual for this time of year. I dread however, the thought of a too early Spring. Things are beginning to look a bit like it at the moment :fl although the temperatures don't indicate it. !! :hmm ... who knows these days with the weather the way it is - all over ? Can only hope Mother Nature knows what she is doing. ;) ( I do believe she does ).

Cheers ~~
