Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey everyone!

First up, my sincere apologies for leaving everyone in the dark as to my whereabouts and may be wondering if all was OK. Since the move up to FNQ life has been beyond hectic with so much to do and so little time including nearly losing our 9 year old cat to kidney stones; after two weeks in veterinary care he is now home which would not have been the case if we had listened to the local Vet who wanted us to euthanize on day 2.

Chookens are doing great!

Anyways, things have settled a little and I will now hopefully have time to catch up with everyone and learn how the 'new site' works.

I missed you guys!
welcome back :)

Somehow I missed a whole page of posts.
So glad your back Teila we missed you.
Sorry about all the unhatched ducklings K Riggs. As I only got 3 as well (counting your one that didn't survive) I'd say it was egg quality. With my last one I put betadine on it and left if on it own it absorbed what it needed and I cut the shriveled cord and put more betadine on it. It looks good now but I will keep and eye on it. How yours little one doing. I would say this one was my smallest. I'm going to open my eggs up this afternoon. Still not feeling crash hot so taking it easy today.
Fancy I checked with other Cayuga owners and they said let them sit longer but 28 days normal, one actually left them 33 days and some hatched.

Yes I think you are right perhaps it really was down to how dirty they were. Inside my dead ones was grey and goupy. Didn't look right maybe there was an infection.

Glad your new one is going OK I so wish I had helped my first one and had three now :( I am very grateful for my two though I feel like they had a lot against them. I really learnt so much from this too so I will be a lot better next hatch. I might get some local Muscovy eggs asap. I put my broody hen in a separate hutch today too and cleaned the coup beautifully and cleaned out my goose pond. I had been neglecting all my animals lol well not neglecting just not completely on top of everything like usual. I'm happy to get back to normal life now and turn my attention to my goslings which should hatch very soon. I need to candle to see if they are viable.

Please let me know the status of your eggs that didn't hatch.

Good luck with the goslings. Muscovy ducks will be company for your Cayuga's as well. I'm thinking I might get some more Cayuga's from the other lady, incase I have too many drakes. The little one I got last night came from my of my dirtier egg. Though I would say it was more mud than poop. I will open the eggs tomorrow and let you know how I got on.

OK, I really wish I could find some ducklings now. I'm worried if I lose one what I would do. So wish I had that safety net of three :( still regret I didn't intervene with the first one he was so close.
