Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Wow, I am so jealous!!
What grade would you put your eggs at? They are wonderful!!
I have got 4 Marans - 2 French Wheatens, 1 Clay, 1 Blue.
A 5 or a 6 I think. My original girls can throw a really dark egg though on the odd occasion. My Black Copper Marans are more like a 4.... I'm going to work on blue too this year (until the imports become available!)

Nice, that is good for Aus.
The lady I bought my FWM's off said they should lay 6-7, which I am not really sure of because 7's just arn't in Aus....are they?
They are not laying yet but one has just started squatting so I think she could start laying soon.
Ooohhh the anticipation! The first pullets eggs are usually really dark then they even off after a few weeks, I'm really excited about this seasons pullets as well, I'm hoping they will produce some good chicks too. We will have to post lots of egg pics! There are Marans now in Australia with the importation syndicate that will match a 7 but the Aus Marans eggs that I have bought over the years don't come any where near a 7... but that's not to say there are no birds that can lay a 7 & I am definitely no expert, I just do this for a hobby and the love of preserving rare breeds.

So much to catch up on!

Congratulations ash and Luke on your new additions :-D

Apps, rough day. Wood chips would soak up moisture. Could be useful but might be a little wasteful. Do you have any gravel you can put down first?

Chook, =-O. I also would be very willing to travel for eggs :) another fellow Victorian here :) do you sell chicks? What color do your croads lay?

Hi Pinky Macgyver, I usually hatch out at least a few rounds to check fertility and the quality of the chicks first in the season before I sell eggs, so I'm likely to have young ones sooner than eggs and I do have egg orders from previous seasons to catch up on. I'm waiting on my croad girls to lay, I'm just starting out with them... they came from a slightly plum tinted egg but they are show quality from a great guy in qld. I'm heading to the Langshan show in July to try to find a suitable roo for them. Or I might try to get a roo shipped down from my breeder.
And I love seeing the chick pics... I am about to put some bought eggs in a day or so, I've been getting itchy to incubate again!

Thanks pinky!!!

That's a good idea pinky. Hubby said he has some gravel at work he can bring home for me tomorrow. I can at least fill my trenches I've dug through my garden beds to keep the water moving away even if there isn't enough for the coop.

9:30pm - 52mm so far today and its just started coming down heavier. Will be interesting what our 24hr total will be

10pm - Oops, gone up to 64mm in the last half hour. Hopefully they don't wash away!

10:30pm - Hmm 72.8. Maybe I better start worrying about our house as well lol
