I had a rir chick that looked similar to that little one. I have not had any Wellies yet though.

mmm.. I used to have partridge welsummers and they had more contrast in their colours. It looks a little like a barnevelder but I could not be sure.

Our Male BV is about center pic, female BV is the lowest chick.



RIR female was very light and not much back stripes


RIR male was darker, with prominent back stripes.


I have never had a Wellie so I can't compare those. your pic just looks similar to our RIR boy Milo when he hatched.

Kat it could be a wellie they have the chipmunk pattern. For a girl wellie you would be looking at a prominent v on the top of the head and eyeliner on the side of the eye that goes past the end of the eye in an unbroken pattern. If the v is lighter and the eyeliner broken or not there at all usually a male.

Oh oh oh!!! Its so mild this morning I'm sitting out having my cuppa with the chookies lol and the one I popped in the nesting box yesterday has just complaining and walking round like she's looking for something and then taken herself off into the nest box. Fingers crossed!!!

Edited to add let out a little that hurt squak lol and now doing the craziest egg song. Good grief sounds like somebody is strangling her and upsetting the other chooks v

Ha ha ha went on and on so got up to look and its not her, its the silkie lol. She must have already been in the nest and got booted lol

If you have some cornflour put that on the bleeding bit of her comb. WIll help to stop it bleeding.
