Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

For qld members have you been to alma park zoo lately? I went yesterday and I fell in love with their outside chicken brooder. It's huge.. Wonder if I can get hubby to make one like that lol. Have batch of chickens almost finished hatching Some rir's some wellies and some wellie x wfbs.. Will post pics once the hatch is done.

We went to Alma Park zoo a while ago. Baby chickens in the big brooder was all my son was interested in!
We went to Ekka this year too, same story with my boy and baby chickens - nothing else matters :)
They had a lot of nice birds at the show.

I just use a normal light socket with a lead (like lamps have) and a 100 watt globe.
Ok, cool.
That's really all I need for my first hatch, seeing as I am selling them straight away.

Luke, here's my incubator all set. Had to fold some paper to hold some of the smaller eggs in so looks a little messy.

The little ones at the top are the Yokohama, them the numbered ones are mine. The rest are the Terry Hill eggs which I guess I'll see what I'll get from.
Yeah, even with my quail eggs I found that some sat nicely while others slipped about.
Good idea with the paper.
Can't wait to see what you get!! Good luck!!!
In the sand bath :)

Nice! I found that our quails just scatter the sand far and wide, leaving nothing left for them to bathe in.lol.

I had just bought one of those 48 auto turn bators and was not happy with it, then decided to bite the bullet and get another rcom pro 50... My dad gave me some money for selling his tractor over the internet so I figured I can't really loose. Now I just have to get selling some birds to make my money back!!! I'm going to look at going to some auctions this year. Good luck on your hatch, it is sooooo exciting. The first lot of my own eggs (bar a few I put in last time) are due to start hatching tomorrow night......... and like #$%^&*(ing cloclwork the power just went out again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pigeon pea is a shrub, but not a dense type, can grow up to 2m high. It is a subtropical/tropical plant that originated in India and Pakistan. Original indian dhal is made from pigeon pea. Great forage for the chooks, makes good mulch, living trellis for climbing plants, good kindling/ fire starter, nitrogen fixer for the garden....
I grow it as perennial, but in colder areas it is an annual plant. I use unripe peas in cooking, but I don't like the pods. Hard as leather :) I shell them.
I am yet to try the mature seeds in cooking.
Sounds good for the chooks. Don't think they would grow well in Darwin, however.

Quote: Are you going to be selling the 48 egg?
Looks like you got a deal!!
DAM!!! that sucks, hope they still all make it.
The same thing happened with me, 1st day I get my bator running and the power goes out ( with the eggs in ) for half an hour. Now the power hasn't gone out in the last 5 months and even when it did about 6 months ago it was because of a huge storm. There is defiantly a Murfey's Law on incubation.
Good luck with the hatch Luke

THanks :D
