Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Does anyone have any experience with Barter and Sons Hatchery?  Or are there any other sites that ship day olds within Australia?

I use them. Debbie ? Knows her stuff and her chickens ! I have never got chick off them though. Just produce. But they have been reliable and quick to rectify a delivery error. Delivery guy left wrong food so I got free replacement and kept crumble originally delivered. By error

Well I live and learn! There's a lady on backyard poultry advertising that she's going to the mainland and has spaces to carry chooks up the east coast to QLD. I was wondering how that works. My daughter is competing at show jumping nationals in Perth and her horse has to go through quarantine , and have hendra shots and ( pardon the pun ) jump through all sorts of hoops.

Horse viruses are easier to contain. Chooks diseases can be transmitted by wild birds and overseas migratory birds. Not as easy to control. RSPCA don't really do anything except commercial as its too difficult to prosecute unless its extreme or the media beat it.

True Sam that's why it's always best to buy eggs if you can rather than hatched chicks but i would just do some research before buying you would not want to introduce any diseases into your existing flock.

Have you done a search for slipped hock?

I found this one a while back. We had similar but turned out to be something different.

There is also some info in here too https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/poultry-podiatry

Can't offer much help for Luke.

Thanks for that. Will try adding vitamins and Epsom salt baths. Doesn't look like slipped hock because he sticks his leg out straight. Might have a go at the hinged bandage and will keep up the physio. How do you tell if they're in pain? What line of painkillers here are ok to give Chickens?

Bens-Hens - These are my some of my Welsummer eggs from a Welsummer breeder in QLD.

There's 4 in there I think, the darkest ones.

I sent the breeder a pic of them the other day as she wanted to see the colour of them. She's constantly trying to improve the egg colour.

Thanks Chook, I don't mean to offend you, but I was hoping they would be a bit darker than that. Google shows some really dark reddy browns but I have found it's best to see what is being laid around as a gauge.

Thanks for sharing.
HELLO ALL.

Hi!
I have never had the hock injury myself and I am not real sure on the pain killer thing. I have tried to treat with St Johns wort, which is supposed to be a natural pain killer but we didn't notice any difference. Got a small bottle from Wollies for a few bucks, then dissolved a tablet in a bit of water and dripped it in.

Hope the little one is on the mend.
