Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

You know Ash you are lucky we live so far away from each other. Imagine if i lived closer. I would be driving by all the time trying to peak over your fence to see what lovely crosses you have come up with now lol. Is it still classed as stalking if you are only stalking baby chickens :lol. Seriously though I love the crosses you come up with.

Why thank you Satay- I like to experiment.
IA friend of mine nearby breeds lots of different varieties of chooks- I am
thinking of getting a couple of dozen "mixed" eggs from him just to add to my gene pool.

The cochins i hatched earlier in the year for my cousin. The rooster is not from that hatch but the two hens are. Boy they have grown. Excuse their nest boxes full of dirt they seem to love to scratch around and fill their nest boxes each day with dirt. Gunna have to figure something else out before the are old enough to lay.

Just had it confirmed and how shall I put it... Rooster approved. Mabel's a Mabel. We'll be picking her back up tomorrow and bringing her home where she belongs. :D Will spend tonight doing a deep dive through the archives here to see if there's anything we can do to stop the crowing. Tomorrow will mostly be spent showering her with love and attention. It was suggested that we put her in an esky each night to stop the crowing but I'm not entirely convinced by that.
Thanks for all your kind words and helpful advice over the last few hours. Non chook owners just don't seem to get it or understand but our girls have fast become a big part of our family and the thought of loosing one of them was quite upsetting.
On the up side I've learnt something else new from this experience and I'm sure the learnings arn't going to stop here.

Did you get your lovely girl back? Is she settling in well?

Hey Satay, yeah we got Mabel back. She's been a bit of a handful since she came home though. She's attacked the other girls numerous times and is still crowing at 5:40 on the dot each morning. We're trying the water spraying method to try and stop her so we'll see how that goes.

We had started to bond a little more until I had to dust them all in mite powder yesterday evening (I think she picked something up in her night away). Now she and the others won't come near me. Poor little buggers.

Anyone planning on a Christmas hatch?? I just candled a few eggs and it look like I will have a few duckies here to play with over the few days I get off work

Hey Ducky have you heard from Wooklet.? Bet she has some love Malays hatching out this time of year too.

I am about to set some eggs for New year as well..then that will be it for me I think. I did want to hatch a few more form a particular duck- but I have too many babies here right now.

Satay- i think maybe about 40 - 50. I didnt keep track this year- but I still have 20 here of different ages.

Wooklet is around- we catch up on FB mostly though.
