Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey. I'm getting my quails in about two weeks. Yay. And will be building a new coop. The water and floods damaged my garage and coop. But nothing to major. Mainly carpet.

Will the quails nest and roost like chicks do?

I am getting my set up organised as I'm getting a silver trio. So excited.

HI Sam

Sorry to hear you had water damage in the floods.

I have Japanese quail. I have 20 breeders and then many babies at the moment. Mine lay an egg a day once they are about 6 weeks old.(they don't lay over winter ) Quails don't roost they are ground dwellers so you don't need roosts for them. Mine don't sit so I incubate eggs. Button quails sit so I have heard but I am not sure about their laying though as I have never had any. I feed mine Laucke Mills gamebird starter. Quails need high protein food and that is the best around. I also put a little acv in their water from birth.

Oh no Apps thats terrible. Do you live where roosters aren't allowed? what kind of roosters do you have.I used to have under cover ducks when i lived in the city. Thankfully muscoveys are quiet so no one knew.
On a sad note for me today i lost my lovely crele brahma rooster. Think it is from all this wet we have had. He looked fine last night but was gone first thing this morning.

Bad day for roosters it seems. Sorry to hear that.

Technically there is no rule to say we can't but council guidelines say it is "discouraged"

He is crowing at 6am though so while one side neighbor said they are fine with him I'm guessing someone else isn't.

I could live without him as he chases the kids but he is a much loved pet despite that and I hate the though it will probably be the death of him :-(

Bugger let us know how you go with the council. If there is no rule to say you can't ,can you cover him in the mornings til it's a bit later. My roosters crow at 3am when hubby goes to work so he says but i never hear them.
I was just going back through all the posts on here trying to find when my wellies were born... Boy i can talk lol. Note to ones self to get Luke the record keeper to write down when things were hatched so i don't have to go back through hundreds of posts to find the answer.. Second note to ones self don't be lazy and do it yourself lol...

A funny story from the weekend. Hubby decided now we have that green stuff in our yards again that he would get on the ride on and mow around the house yard. The wellies came out flying at him and would not let up until he moved out of the house yard with the mower. I could not stop laughing long enough to go get my camera for a picture. I think they were scared he was gunna take away the green stuff they finally have.. I did get to do the house yard later on and they did not fly at me lol. Hubby hardly ever mows maybe that scared them lol.
