I have decided to go to my first poultry auction on Saturday at Laidley. I am going just for a "look". I was going to go with a few girlfriends from out here but they are as bad an influence as me when it comes to buying chickens so that is out lol. I was then going to go by myself in the hatch back but thought I could probably put quite a few chickens in there if I put the seats down lol. So now I have decided to go with hubby in the ute. He will hopefully keep me to my just looking plan though if there are some nice marans there how knows lol.

Just looking at an Auction. Good luck with that.

I went to an auction looking for Plymouth and came back with Plymouth, Plymouth bantams, Ducks, Quail, Turkeys and quail eggs which are hatching as I type. Also Pigeons, but I've finally managed to find a new home for them. I also brought back a virus, but it's already gone thanks to anti-biotics and it didn't spread beyond my auction chooks because of the quarantine pen.

Out of 16 viable eggs, I had 6 in lock-down and 5 of those are looking good.

Long story short, leave your wallet at home. That is the best advice I can give you.

Also, I have some Plymouth hatching and a single D'uccle from my experiment with trying to hatch posted eggs (they weren't very well protected so I'm happily surprised I got anything).

They are fun though, so enjoy!

Hey Ash, have you seen the photo comp over on the APF? Pretty cool first prize this month. Not sure if that's the norm though as its my first time entering. Just thought I'd mention as its fun to have an extra excuse to take photos

I'm a member of the Canberra/Queanbeyan Poultry Club. It cost $10 to join. I'm glad I did, because I now have an extra resource to use. That said, they've been around for so long that they don't really have the energy to do as much as they used to. They are doing a pure breed poultry sale on in May, if anyone is interested.
