Solution to crowing roosters :) Someone at work told me how he stopped his rooster from crowing at night and early morning.
I have a guinea pig hutch which is 40 cm high. I put my rooster in it for the night. It is high enough for him to walk around comfortably, but he could not stretch his neck enough to crow.
Let him out when he is allowed to crow. This was not a solution for me as I live in suburbs and there is no roosters allowed. My rooster was in the cage for a few days and there was no crowing.
You can also try putting a perch just below the ceiling of the coop. If there is only one rooster he will be on the top of the pecking order, so will perch up high, unable to crow until he gets out in the morning.

I understand that some neighbours complain about roosters crowing at night and early morning, others complain about roosters crowing no matter what time. Some complain just for the sake of it...

Got a phone call from the council yesterday as I suspected they didn't get the dog on camera. So there is nothing else council can do now unless I can get a better picture of it or it actually attacks someone.
Have lots of baby quails in the incubator when I woke this morning. Will get pictures later as my battery is flat.

Super frustrating.

Is it possible to catch dogs like you can ferrel cats etc? When my parents had a ferrel cat problem they hired a cage from the pound and then just had to ring when they had one for them to take away. Just thinking if you catch him in a cage on your land they can hardly say he isnt in there?

Think ours is one of the for the sake of it ones lol Was talking to the other neighbour this afternoon and told her he may need to go and her reaction, was oh what a pity we liked hearing him. Go figure.

On a positive note I may have found a home. My boss in on acreage but already has a rooster so I never thought to mention him to him. I was telling him today about council giving us the easter deadline to shut him up and he said he might take him as the one he has is a "piece of ****" LOL Apparently his wife has been at him to get rid of it as is possesive of the hens food and is constantly mounting them to the point of wearing the poor things out. Its just a bossy unlikeable rooster.

So if he gets the chop mine might get a home. Seems a bit unfair for poor existing rooster but at least the kids could visit him when they have to come to work with me in the school holidays. So got my fingers crossed it does work out. And if he doesnt work out I can say let me know before you give him the chop LOL

Only thing is Mr Ed is a bantam and he has leghorns. Would he be okay with full sized hens?

Quails do not make any noise and can be kept in any place you would have a budgie. They are not considered poultry according to city councils in Australia, they are aviary bird, which is a great little loophole for a lot of people. Some have them in a unit or townhouse, in the garage, on the balcony etc. I started with 3 hens in a guinea pig hutch. I have japanese (coturnix) quails, for eggs.
Their lifespan is only 2.5 years, that's why I bought an incubator and hatch them now. Too expensive to keep buying birds...Their eggs are lovely and have great nutritional value.

It takes 85 seconds to soft boil a quail egg :) A lot of "trial and error" went into this one !!!

They certainly make trap cages big enough to catch a dog. They are used to trap dingoes. Where you could hire one, I have no idea.
