Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I think I might go and buy it, been meaning to so the favs have spured me on :) but there's a few articles there sound interesting.
Give your fingers a break lol but thanks for the offer!

O.K as promised.

Monthly Worming Mash:

* For 20 Pullets, heat 2L whole Milk to which had been added 2 whole cloves of deep purple garlic, crushed ( I'm just going to use garlic ). Add the garlic to the milk as soon as it is crushed. To this, add 6 hot sweet chillies, finely chopped and 1tsp each of freshly ground paprika and turmeric.

* Warm the mix to a serving heat for porridge then let stand overnight. Warm again in the morning, then mix the milk with 2kg dry layers mash ( or what ever feed you use ). This you then feed to you girls.

* If your birds are heavily infested with worms: grate 2 whole carrots into each kilo of mash, adding it raw, then stir well into the pre-warmed mix.

Garlic and Chillies are some of the other essential ingredients of all worm preventive mashes for fowls and growing you own will save alot of cash. In this mag it says you will need 6kg of garlic and 72 chillies per year to keep a flock of 10 hens served with a worm expellent mash once a month, every month of the year, on the last week end before each full moon.

The monthly worming mash recipe works because it expels the worms on a regular basis as they are picked up as ova from the ground by ranging fowls - month to month - with the body mash purging them out of the body every 4 weeks before they get a chance to grow and establish and to begin shedding eggs.

Non of this work is mine, It was all written by Paul Healy.

Hope this helps at least one person. I plan on growing my own chillies which he recommends.

Chillies are easy to grow I have one plant taller than hubby and it supply's us for a year and next year in one season. I make chilli mash that has bit of vinegar to preserve it. If you want seeds I can send some but it's a medium to hot plant.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter break!

I started building a new cage for my baby quails. Should have it finished tomorrow, so will post some pictures.
I learned (the hard way) how extremely territorial quails are, so cannot add the new birds to the existing cage.

The first time I did it the existing birds killed one of the new ones before I knew what was happening!

I want to hatch more quails, but am running out of space on my little block.

Work in progress:

Alliterationsss you must live near me! I had three bush turkeys who grew up here and one extra one who is less friendly who arrived a few months ago

They won't go away either! My neighbour and I didn't mind them until the new one started picking on our girls..the turkeys roam from property to property.

My chickens now live in my back garden due to a rouge fox...the bloody turkeys have also moved into the back garden! I have trained my dogs to chase them out but they are really dumb birds and don't get the message. I also have a fenced area for the silkies for when I go out and somehow the turkeys manage to squash into there then flap like a demon because my dogs bark at them and they can't get back out.

I have no idea how to stop them so if someone does please share! My husband thew rocks at them for a while but they just look for when he isn't here...now they visit early morning and later in the evening and can't be all that dumb as they watch to see if the dogs are with me or not, no dogs, happy turkeys! They fly quite high too!

Satay, I am really sorry for your loss. I have yet to have any girl last that long due to foxes or my neighbours dogs so can only imagine how upset you are.

BTW how do I strike mint? I Have some but now want to go mint mad to deter the remaining bush rats...

all i ever do to strike plants is stick them in glass of water on my kitchen window sill and forget they are there for 2-3 weeks LOL I remember they are there and have roots and transplant to where i want them.

or stick it in the ground and water 2 times aday

either works for me. If you wanna be fancy you can buy 'root hormone' to encourage growth

WOW training chickens sounds fun - mine all run to me when I whistle for the dog because I call him to feed him or to locate him and he gets a treat for responding ! the girls have it down pat - they arrive BEFORE the dog
