Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

And I've just discovered a little problem with faverolles. They are good jumpers!!
Went to lock them up tonight only to find one on the other side of the fence with the big girls. Not sure how long she'd been in there but the others were in bed when I found her. Suspect she was trying to get back up to our back door lol
Going to have to try and find a way to stop them jumping somehow.

Clip a wing. I had to with the lorp found her in my neighbours tree one day after looking for two hours

Here are the weights
Roosters are 3.6kg - 4.1kg
cockerels are 3.2kg - 3.6kg
Hens are 2.75kg - 3.1kg
pullets are 2.25kg - 2.75kg

They have recently just decreased the weights
A rooster used to be 4.7kg and a hen used to be up to 4.2kg
My rooster is about 5kg and I have one hen that would be about 4kg so it does vary. Overall they are larger than an average chicken. Gentle Giants.
My utility line of Australorps are significantly smaller than my exhibition line.

Australorps come in Black, Blue, Splash and White.
Thanks for the comments so far on my birds. If anyone breeds them though I would still very much appreciate there thoughts.

I love your flock especially the black above the roo and the blue below. Lovely saddle shape and combs ! They look classical to me Love them.

Week 2 feed change update.

Slight increases again in eggs is all I notice so far from the feed change.
Before feed change average 2 eggs a day. Week one average 5 eggs a day. Week 2 average 7 eggs a day.

Grats Satay. I hope it continues. And it works out. I wish we had a produce store close. I ship all mine in

Far out Sam that must be expensive. We have probably 8 produce stores within 30 minutes drive which is not far out here but this is the only grain place I have found where you can by bulk grain. The place is massive. I would say a couple of thousand acres. As you drive in you pass lots of b doubles and road train going out full of grain.

Two very good lines. Come spring, would you be willing to send eggs? If so, let me know because I intend to do my own line of big blue egg layers and I would love an outcross. Plus I would like the leghorn/Araucana because those eggs would look so good in my egg basket

I have never sent eggs by post before, but am willing to give it a go.
The pure blue line aren't laying yet, but I expect eggs any day now.

And Red, how did you walk past the Sebright without buying them?!?!

Seriously, I need to know, in case I come across such a dilemma in future. I only want Gold Sebrights, so I find it hard to ignore the offer for the silver Sebrights... I must ignore them...
Quite simple Colourful, I have nowhere to put them!!!
If I mention to my hubby another pen or coop I will probably be forced to sleep there with the chickens.

All your babies are SO CUTE!!! I don't breed anything at our house, but they are simply adorable!

Where are these Quail photos Luke?!

I'm with you Blondie, makes it hard not to justify trying it somehow when looking at all these cuties though lol

Not too bad as they only charge 35 for delivery so I bulk buy and it would cost me more to drive there myself!
