Okay, so here are my currant pair of Peafowl. I'll look into getting more girls as I find them, and maybe a new boy if he doesn't start to grow fairly quickly (he's two months older than my Peahen, yet he's the smaller one)

His brother is a split for white which means he might throw Pied if I get a split hen far into the future....

And here is their temporary run. Only cost about $400 delivered (and can be used for just about anything, I was chuffed at the bargain).

My new turkey hens are absolutely lovely. Easy going and wings have all been clipped so no-one is making over a 4ft fence, let alone the 7ft that the dogs now have. I look forward to Turkey eggs and poults :)

Well had an interesting trip to the vet this afternoon. I took the faverolle with the longer bottom beak to have it trimmed (yeah I know Im a wimp lol) It did bleed a fair bit so Im glad I didnt do it myself in the end.

However...........He said she was also really skinny which I hadnt realised. I dont really know how to tell if they are fat or not but he said you could feel her breastbone really easily. I was more worried she wasnt getting enough water, seems like the food wasnt getting down either.

She also had mites - ugh! I thought we were rid of those. So this time instead of putting the ivermectin on topically Ive given it to them orally. I thought that was going to be a total pain till I had the bright idea to make balls of their warm mash and drop the drops onto the top. The only problem then was making sure each ate its own all by themselves with no help from any one else :) worked a charm though. That also means Ive now wormed them too in case that was contributing to her weight loss too.

Any tips for getting her back up to where she should be more quickly? She seems to be eating okay with the cut beak now and drinking better but Ill have a better idea tomorrow. If she stays dry I guess that means she isnt leaking water when she tries to drink any more so the trimming was a success.

Mites!!!! AH!! I am so scared of them.lol.
I am so glad you have got it all under control and great idea with the feed bowls.
Glad your girl can eat much better now. I think she will just fatten up nicely now. The mites can really affect chickens in all ways.

You could try just in the mornings putting her own little area and letting her eat as much as she wants. Also spread the food around so she doesn't just chomp it all down, it will take her longer to eat it but that mean she can digest her food faster.

Good Luck!!!!
