Welcome tj.
Seems my streak of bad luck is set to continue. We had to go out yesterday and as usual I let the wellies out to free range before we left. 4 ish hours later we get back and I can't find the wellies anywhere. As I am walking around calling them I find my five originals hiding in some bushes. I then find one of the new girls(with injuries to her back) but I can't find the rest. Eventually I find a heap of feathers down towards the neighbours fence line. I did eventually find 2 of the missing 3 girls. All three I found have injuries but one is still missing. I am thinking we have had a visit from the neighbours dog again. I am guessing my dogs have woken up in the middle of it thus why 3 have made it with only minor injuries. I spent a couple of hours searching the whole yard for the missing girl but no luck. I have even been out this morning with a torch. My wellies will no longer be able to free range in the front part of the property. I have moved them down the back with the others. Guess this week is just not my week. Bring on next week I say.
Satay I am so sorry, I missed your post about the wellies. What an awful week its been.
Is there any chance of getting an evidence feather trail photo leading back to their property?
Well at least she didn't leave new born chicks, other wise you would have to rear them your self which I am guessing would be hard.
Glad your nephews are having fun with Pearly's baby. What is her name?
Oh Satay, what is going on with every ones flocks these last few weeks!
I am so sad to hear this, we all loved your Wellies.
Hope you find her!!! Look in trees as well, when a cat attacked my flock I found a few chickens up trees just sitting there.
Two of my girls have come down with runny bums leaving a nasty mess on their fluffy bloomers. So far I am adding in live yoghurt and garlic to a warm mash each morning, and ACV to their water.
Apart form having dirty butts they are bright eyed, active, hearty eaters and happy, a tiny bit ratty looking as they had a half hearted sort of moult a few weeks back so their tail areas are a bit sparse. No visible worms in the manure. The other hen is fine with no dirty bum and firmer stools.
The only real difference in conditions is that they recently discovered my raised vegie beds and have been going to town on my winter leafy greens (now fenced off) - one with a dirty bum has been eating quite a lot of basil and her poo looks like pesto (ok, yeah, that was too far).
Anything else I should be doing? If it persist I will try some epsom salts, and I am getting some worming tabs in too.
