Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

You used to be able to get stuff on grey hound coaches. Not sure if you still can but would be worth a look.. I have heard many bad things about Ray coombs just like you mentioned and apparently he is really expensive too. Good luck colourful I hope you get them to you ok.

Well, I called the vet this morning and Afro is still alive which is good...they don't expect to see a proper improvement until Monday/Tuesday. It was a paralysis tick, and quite big.

I am totally obsessive with the dogs and ticks - they are on Advantix every two weeks and also the peppermint tick collars, they live inside so get checked a lot and I work from home so they aren't laying about in the garden on their own or anything. I used to use Frontline but one of them got a tick on it and $3,000 later with great relief he recovered. Now I only use Advantix for them and have to use Frontline for my cat as he has no other options...although, I have to confess in winter I back off on the fortnightly application as there aren't SUPPOSED to be that many ticks about...and what are my girls doing if not eating the freaking ticks I ask?!!!

I guess I have to blame the fairy elephant possum who dances on our roof each night for the tick...

I am hoping the first sighting of blue sky in well over a week in Soggy Sydney is a sign that Afro will pull through. I don't believe the other two have even noticed she is missing!

So very over this wet weather!

Beautiful pics of your kelpies! I still don't know how to post photos or I would bore you all with my glam boys and chickens! I also have a Staffy who is fourteen and a half - he's having his 15th birthday party in October! :)

Good news about Afro Blondie .... hoping even better news tomorrow or Tuesday! I hear ya regards the weather, while we have not copped it quite as bad as further South, a wet weekend is always a downer (no gardening or spending quality time with my feathered girls).
To add images....on top of your 'Reply' or 'New Thread' comment box are two toolbars. The top toolbar should say 'Source' and 'Normal' and under that there is another toolbar. On the far left is a small square with a house and sun picture in it. If you hover over that with your mouse it will say 'Insert Image'. If you left mouse click on that icon it will open up another box in which you need to select 'Upload Files' which will allow you to browse through your folders to the image you would like to add.
Hope that helps

That blue sky is a welcome sight isn't it Blondie!! Every time I take a step in our run water wells up round my boot so I was very happy to see blue instead if grey again :)

I'm glad to hear Afro is still holding on. It never would have crossed my mind they could get ticks! Did the vet mention if there are preventatives for birds too? Mine live up in the back garden most of the day so guess that's a good spot for ticks.

Also been meaning to ask about spider bites. Are chickens susceptible ? Our back garden has a hole about every 30 cm. hubby reakons they aren't funnel webs though

Good to hear Afro chick is still alive, hope she gets better soon and make a full recovery.
I also thought ticks where not supposed to be about throughout Winter but mum says that the cats are picking heaps up and I have even found a few on me. I think the ticks are evolving to live on cement and in wood.LOL. because the two times I got ticks the other day I had come in contact with no grass!!!

Hi all I've been here lurking :)

I thought I'd let you in on a tick spray I found very effective after I found 7 paralysis ticks on my dog that had not left my yard. In a very suburban yard at that!

I cannot remember what it is called (not so helpful) but i purchased it from bunnings, it comes as a powder in a sachel/packet then mixed with 2ltrs water. Can be sprayed aroun eerywhere including kennels!

Hope it does help others as I didnot see anymore ticks for the season and will use again this year!

WELCOME!!!!! You should have jumped in earlier, everyone is welcome!

Is this the stuff you are talking about? I searched through the Bunnings store and this looks like what you explained.

Hi clukeclukeluke yes that is it! It was actually recommended to me by a pest control friend who had nothing himself to help me out..

I do love this site I hatched my first chicks last year and another this year... I am down to 2 silkies and 3 baby silkies.. This is my new facebook :)

Pinky I also was very slack in not thanking you for your egg it has been a crazy year so far and seems to be getting worse! unfortunately it was unsuccessful :( I would put it down to the post man..

I still owe you eggs :) was a bit strange sending just one I know, but it was all she gave me and I Didn't want to not send anything. Gosh, I was so frantic back then, had no real chicken contacts and my homemade incubator failed miserably and I was just so happy for people to take the eggs off my hands. Anyway, once she starts laying again, just lemme know when you want eggs :)
