Apps with my recent tick experience Afro was really slow and when she first got sick, she isn't as 'in your face' as the other two or as active anyway but she had slowed down so much that i could pick her up and put her back in their run...

She is back with all the other girls today and perfectly normal so I am most pleased, however, whilst inspecting that all was as it should be I was looking at Walter as she was eating something and her bottom is a bit pink and seems to be missing some feathers - she is normal in behaviour in all ways and seems to be laying as they all are... my feed guy says that if you feed your girls lots of greens then they will still lay, I don't know if that is true or not.

Luke, I made them porridge last week in the rain. Much to my disappointment they weren't fans! It took ages for them to eat it and the ring leader was Soda the bossy Silkie....they prefer yoghurt it seems, as long as its not cold!

I'm with K Spot, my HENS can't get enough porridge, even if it just oats and water. THEY LOVE IT ALL!!!
Especially when they are lucky enough to get it warm.

Maybe try again, hens sometimes take a while to get used to things and they might like it better each time even if at first they where not over the moon.

Okay talk worms with me folks

Just went and checked in tuppence and was surprised to find no poop in the straw she is on even after being in there most of the day.

I just gave her some scrambled eggs and she ate some and then proceeded to do a huge smelly but very normal looking poop. I pulled that straw out to keep the little cage clean and had a good look and if I look very hard there is what seems to be grit in it or some un digested tiny seeds.

I did have her poop tested for worms and it came back clear a few weeks back and they were treated for worms but that was with the one that also treats mites (name eludes me)
But it doesn't do one type of worm.

Is it normal to have grit or seeds in poop or would they be eggs? I've looked at the poop pictures with eggs but I expected them to stand out more than this does.

I think grit in the poop would be normal ( seems logical to me ) but perhaps not big chunks or vast amounts of it would be good.
Maybe she is just going back into that calcium deficiency thing she had a while back?

Yeah. Just keep an eye on her. I'm not sure why she has kept a poo in so long. She might go back to normal now.

Hello!

I'm glad to hear about everyone's egg status, who said you can't hatch in Winter? And I'm sorry about your budgie loss satay.


I promised photo's, and photo's there shall be.

First off, here are the older pair (unrelated). The Peahen is on the Left with my boy up the back. You can't really tell because of her next to him, but the boy is really growing (he's gaining weight really well).



And here are my Japanese bantams. You can see all three hens have gone broody and my little rooster can be seen sitting on the eggs too on occasion. That said, they're sitting on quail eggs, not bantam eggs as the bantam eggs aren't fertile (my boy still isn't "working")


And finally I have the new Peachicks. They are certainly not 6 months old, no matter what the lady told me, and they are a little underfed. If you look closely, you can see that the 3rd one from the left had white feathers on their wing, which means they are split. So if I put them over a pied or white, I can breed more pied and white. Yays.



I also found out that they had never been wormed, so they're in a temp aviary until I've got them clear of parasites. I've got a definite girl, a definite boy and two unknowns. I've also found a place in Queensland that sells whites (after DNA testing to tell their sex, as that's the only way for one under the age of 2-3 years) whom I'll be looking into at the end of the year.
