Where I am I usually sell fertile eggs pretty easily. With live birds I only sell pairs and trios but I generally sell them by the time they are 16 weeks old. I only sell pairs and trios so I find a home for the boys as it is hard rehoming boys. In saying that I have had return customers wanting more boys (for breeding). I always have them rehomed by the 4 month mark though so it works out well.Hi CB and CG,
I would love to see some pics of your different strains also. I love the blues, they are just lovely... Are the Australorps in demand, ie easy to sell? (It is one of my fears - that I get caught up in the joys of incubating and end up with fluffy butts overrunning the place, and no one wants them
) How do they cross with Marans??![]()

There is actually no such thing as utility blues. You can cross utility blacks with an exhibition blue for 4 or so generations and then you would have utility blues but they were never originally created that way as the blacks were.Oh you have separate strains, that is good.
So do only have black utility or do you have blue's in the utility strain as well?
Yes I would like to see some photo's, just out of curiosity if it's not to much trouble.
Hi Ben,I am always keen for pics!
We are not into shows, but we just love the look of the blues. We have a lovely black called Luna just about to have her first egg. Just waiting.......any day now........still waiting lol
Hi Ben,
We have not as of yet shown our birds. We may do next month but still deciding on that one. The blues are absolutely stunning. Probably my favourite Australorp colour closely followed by black. The Splash and white are nice too but they can looks so dirty and so scruffy very easily. In regards to waiting for eggs I know how you feel. My exhibition birds start laying around the 20-22 week mark while the utilities take any where between 6 and 8 months.
Wow pretty. I have never seen a utility one before. I have the same as your black show ones but I don't show them. Here is one of my blue breeders. I am having trouble uploading pics at the moment so you will have to be satisfied with these. I will have a go some other time at more pics.![]()
This is another breeder of mine.
