Wow beautiful egg colours.
My favs have started doing the egg song!!!
Looks like those first eggs are getting closer!!
Actually had one yesterday that was slightly larger than our bantams with a bit if a point squished as laid looking top on it. Guess that could even have been one. Two of them are sitting on the roost and clucking while one of the banties is on the nest. So just added an extra nesting box just in case they aren't brave enough to go in with her on it(its big enough for 2 at a time)
I'll try to find a pic of first generation Marans with ara roo but most of my photos are on one of my many external hard drives so it wouldn't be for a while, probably quite similar to the olive eggs on my profile pic. Those dark olive eggs I have been working on for 4 years and are the result of 5 different crosses. I have one of those dark green eggs wriggling around in the incubator with Marans over it again so fingers crossed for a pullet! On that note I had a little chick hatch day 18 from my croad egg, It has wheaten feathering though so will end up as a layer but the other croad egg has pipped and is peeping too!thanks Chook and Pinky.
So, Chook, how many crosses to get the eggs olive? that particular egg, and couple more dark eggs are actually by an araucana rooster, so how dark might that first cross be (if they are a hen and if they have a pea comb)
I use a titan egg candler, it is on mains power so you always have a bright light and never need new batteries. Only down fall if you needed to candle in a black out you would have to fall back on another one. It is really good for candling in the light and with my dark eggs I need a really powerful one to see what is going on... I do incubation programs at my kids kinder and school each year so it's good for demonstrations in the day light too...Where did everyone get their candlers from? I would like to get a new one so though I would ask first to see what is best before buying.
Yah lets hope you have lots of egg soon. What colour eggs so favs lay?
Any ideas where to get one? I want one to be able to see the darker eggs like you said.I'll try to find a pic of first generation Marans with ara roo but most of my photos are on one of my many external hard drives so it wouldn't be for a while, probably quite similar to the olive eggs on my profile pic.
