Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi all, hope everyone had a good day. I still haven't found out exactly what is with Gingers bum. No one posted in my other thread but after constantly searching the web I thought it might have been peritonitis? She's not showing any other symptoms though. So then I thought maybe its just from being feather picked and it appears swollen because so much of her feathers are missing? All today she was as happy as larry, eating, drinking, dust bathing, sun baking, roaming the backyard (which is new to her). I've given her some blueberries, apple and cat food (as per your suggestion Satay, I also checked her for lice and she looks clean). She seems fine and happy.

Just got my little chicks... Not sure there hybrids through.

Nice chicks!

gold Feather, I had a hen recently whom I suspected of the same condition. I rang everyone I thought would know what to do... nobody did except one lady said do a manual removal, one said she would just slowly die over a couple of weeks!! Others said knock her head off!! :( I couldn't bear to have that happen so I armed myself with non latex gloves, some personal lubricant, some covering for protect and did the digital thing. There was nothing there that I could feel, but it may have helped clear a blockage because she recovered and is doing well now. She came from a person who wanted to get rid of her and the hen is quite a great grand mother, but she is now on a good feed mix, lots of fresh pick and a lot cleaner living conditions than she came from and she is perfectly well again. I hated doing it but wasn't going to watch her die a very cruel and painful death and certainly wouldn't hesitate to do it again. She was covered in lice and really was in shocking health.
I hope that helps you! :)
