Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

OK, so my husband tells me what you're looking for is universally called a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) and they are available at most electronics stores (Dick Smith, Officeworks etc)
You'll have to do your research into how long you'll get based on the power consumption of your incubator.

Thanks megacakes my computer friend told me and I couldn't remember what it was called, I might do a look around myself instead of waiting for him to organize a few for me. My 48 eggs run on 65 watts so I think they will do great if they can keep a computer running... That way it gives me time to get the generator ready to go :)
Gorgeous birds trish... And a great hen house 3 little chooks

O.K, questions seem to keep popping up.

With the brooder, at what temp does it need to be for the 1st week?
Do I keep the lamp on all the time of does it go off at night so they can sleep? It is very bright.
I have got an aquarium with a lid for them, do I need to keep it as sealed as possible ( like the bator) or is ventilation necessary?

This is my boy that came home with us last week

He's settled in nicely and I'm now starting to recognize when eggs are coming as he stands guard of the ladies and crows a bit while they're laying.

Finally was able to get a pic of the other black ladies we have, I am unsure of the breed so if someone can help out that'd be awesome

Wow, she is certainly not your average Black Sex-Link.
You have a very lovely Bantam Black Leghorn there!!

Love your rooster, he is very handsome. I have 3 Ancona hens that he would love!!!

Thanks for helping! :) We have 3 of the bantum black leghorns, Just the one I got the photo of is clucky and I've got her in a separate evelated area to try and get her laying again. 2 days in so hopefully not much longer.

I fell in love with the rooster when I saw his picture and had to have him. We weren't ready for a boy but I had to have him lol

Yep they need the heat in the night especially. And ventilation is a must, I found this table

That's another reason I like the brooder hens, I'd find being under a bright light like that all the time torture but I'm sure warmth far out ways an annoying light

Luke I have a thermostat on mine that I set to 35c for the first week. when it gets to 35c it turns it's self off and will stay off til the temp drops. I drop mine by 5c per week after that. Your lid will need vent holes. Mine just has a heap of holes drilled into the top. If you don't have a thermostat you could use a normal thermometer and just adjust it that way. I think we all probably do it slightly different but that will give you and idea.

I only had my recent broody frizzle in a separate cage for 2 days and she was already off being broody.
Also, she started laying immediately which is great, some times hens won't lay after being broken.

Oh, I hope she'll still lay, I've not tried this type of breaking broodyness before but other times she's been broody she's come back to laying (well, At least I think she has as its hard to tell who lays what when the three of them look the same lol)

Thanks Satay, but I don't have a thermostat. I have got a lamp and it is sitting on 35 nicely.

Here is the set up so far. ( bedding yet to go in ).

Got my elavated feeder ( made out of a yogurt pot ) and a lid with marbles in it for the water. Do you find water becoming warm a problem or should regular changes be enough? I could freeze a couple of marble to keep the water cool?
