I would love to take the credit, but they are not made by me, or even mine. I like the idea and had a spare electric antenna laying about so I have been having a play in the afternoons after work. I would not have bothered, but we keep out rooster in his own box at night. Long story short, some mornings myself and the family leave around 7 am on the weekends, so I wanted a way to let him out around 8 am when we had no one here. I had been using a water weight system with a windscreen wiper motor as a pump, powered by a phone charger, but twice the timer let me down so I was looking for something more reliable.

I often leave the coop open at night and the chickens come out themselves in the morning. Obviously on a larger rural property there is a risk of predators but you don't have that in the suburbs.

Down here in the suburbs and the city (Vic) there are tonnes of foxes...

Yeah I am pretty lucky basically living the dream rounding up cattle and sheep on the horses galloping through the paddocks getting the dogs to round up it is awesome!!! And of cause the chickens are awesome

In ten years , I've lost 2 hens to a white goss hawk, and 1 to an owl. We do have a pair of nesting sea eagles on our land, but so far they haven't run the gauntlet with the dogs.
My cats are terrorized by the chooks.
