Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Wow, you must loose an awful lot of food to them and what about lice, wild birds have an abundance of lice living on them.

That is actually the pullets pinching the wildbirds and wallabies food. It is one of my battles, but it is our own fault because we feed the wild birds. it is also a disease risk. it is something I will have to work out, as everthing is in a freerange situation.

My hubby trapped 2 x mallard ducks took them up to his mates dam 2 K's away. Next morning they were back smiling at me , waiting for the chook food. The turbo chooks also pinch my chickens food.

Mmmm, I actually have wild black chooks too (aka scrub turkeys) that pinch a lot too. Strangely, there were none in that photo.

Question guys........ I am new to chooks, I have 7 week old chicks raised since week 1. I want to let them out in the backyard to roam but not sure whether they are old enough to fly. When do they get their flight feathers? They seem to flap and get some height on them now.

At 7 weeks they aren't likely to fly up onto fences. Is that what you are worried about?

I have 3 hens that are separated from the chicks, I let them run free in the backyard. But I want to put the chicks in the main coop run so they can get out for a bit of roaming. I am worried that they may fly over the fence and end up in the backyard with the big girls and have problems( getting peaked or attacked).

Do your hens fly out? If they don't escape it I wouldn't worry about the young ones.

Mine have only recently started jumping up into a four foot railing to escape and they are 6 months old.
