So who else harnesses chicken power to do their gardening for them??

I must admit I like planning my garden much more than weeding it lol. So it tends to go to weeds on me all the time. I've had the chooks in the back part of a large garden that I haven't had weed free for ten years at least and the little darlings have it looking so smart I've extended their run to include some more of it.

They particularly liked the bit close to the temporary dividing fence near my herbs and not only ate all those darn weeds with the seeds that grab your clothes but ate my wandering jew too. Then decided to dig it over for me there as well. So...I've just moved the temporary fence back a bit and planted some more herbs in that lovely cultivated bit :)

I'd really like to build something to fit over my vege garden plots so they could keep the empty ones ready for me too.

Anyone else using chicken labour?

While I don't let them into the gardens, when my husband and I weed out vege garden, we throw the weeds to the girls. They go nuts over them.

Yeah Apps, we have put our mulch hay into one of the day pens for the girls to scratch out. By the time they are finished with it , it's nice and flat, ready to plant my fruit trees.
Beats doing myself, and keeps them entertained for a couple of weeks.

I have just evicted 2 from my vege patch, they ate all the weeds scratched compost in for me, ready to plant my spring veges. Up here for thinking , down there for..............

As we can't grow anything out here in winter, I let all my vege patches go crazy, left last years silverbeet in, laid straw from the chicken pen over my potato patch, Alfie and the girls have spent all winter fertilizing and spreading the straw out for me :)
They managed to keep the silverbeet patch weed free, although they have stripped most of the leaves off too lol
I dug up the corn patch yesterday and they pretty much did the rest for me. All I had to do was remove the grass runners. Corn seeds replanted but have fenced it off till the corn gets well established, then they can get back in there and keep it maintained for me :)
I wish they'd dig a hole for me where I want to put a pond for some ducks by the end of the year ;) lol Don't see that happening lol

I sure do :)

Hey guys. The little lame chicken has passed away. I took her to the vet that day and it turned out to be a broken hip :( the vet said she had a very low chance of recovery and would just be suffering for a long time and recommended putting her down :( at least she's not in pain anymore.

On a brighter note, I'm finally getting into the garden properly. I just got new raised beds that a family friend built for me :)

I've spent the part two days shovelling dirt because I WAY over ordered but now that the car isn't blocked in anymore, and almost all the planting is done, I'm just chilling in the hammock :)
