Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

On Black Saturday it was 47 degrees here, with flames two metres from the chicken houses, and I didn't lose a single chook.
The are tougher than you think!

I'm wondering if its a breed thing. We never did anything for our Australorpes years ago but the faverolles are already standing with mouths open. The bantams aren't doing it though.
Will be an interesting first summer :)

One last link....I promise!

This one may be of use to some of you. Some old friends of mine dropped out of the Sydney rat race and built themselves a strawbale house down near Bega. They've just taken possession of 100 chicks, to raise for meat to be processed at a local co-op. The processing place sounds really interesting, and provides a service for those of us who aren't quite up to the killing stage of chicken life.
Otherwise, have a read through her blog....it's a really lovely account of the simple life!
