Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

How many people are raising under hens? I'm very new to the whole thing, only got my chickens maybe 20 weeks ago. I have 1 golden laced Wyandotte, one dark barred Plymouth Rock and and Isa Brown. It was my PR that went broody so I bought two eggs for her to hatch and she has been wonderful. Will she only go broody once a year?

Hi guys!

Can my 4 and 6 week old chicks sleep outside? I'm in Sydney it's quite cool the two have a little rabbit hutch but i've been bringing em in at night what age can they sleep outside?

I'm freaking out because my other chickens have the flue and i'm wondering if the cold air will bring bring it on or make it worse?

Ash has Ara's try him.

If your talking about Rumpless Ara's, then yes we do have them here in Aus. But the main Ara is tailed over here and it is a true breed with it's own standard.
I think you have seen the American Araucana's ( rumpless ) and the Americans tailed Ameraucanas.

I'm am talking about the rumpless ones, well tailless ones really. Okay so mine are still araucana's but they have their own standard. I'm very new to this all

I usually put mine out at 6 weeks, so long as they are fully feathered and have buddies to snuggle up to.

It depends on the breed.
My frizzle went broody twice in the same month.

Most hens go broody in Spring and Summer but I have had them mid Autumn.
Silkies go broody often as well, almost all year round.

No! I don't want her to go broody. She's only maybe 10 months old and has already managed to sit and hatch so I take that as a bad sign? She's a Plymouth Rock.

I have a dozen Wyandotte eggs under a Silkie x and my other broody Silkie just hatched 6
You'll find that the pr & Wyandotte will go broody but probably not the isa brown. I have chooks raised both ways and while it's nice to see them raised with their mum, the ones from the brooder are always much friendlier , being hand reared.

Thats right. The standards for Araucana's in Australia actually requires a tail. The quality in a lot of Araucana's in Australia are questionable as many have been crossed and are actually Easter eggers. If your Araucana's have a crest (Pom Pom on top of head) as well as a beard then they are likely to be pure. If they only have one of these two traits it is unlikely they are pure.

That's what I thought. I assumed that we just had Easter eggers over here.
