So 1pm yesterday Wilma layed her first egg! Perfectly formed ect.. Just this morning she was walking around and I thought she was doing a poop but she layed another "undeformed " egg.. Is this normal????

it can be normal for a new layer to lay not normal eggs until their system sorts themselves out. You may need to add some added calcium if she keeps laying soft shell eggs. You can add oyster shells. crushed up egg shells or even some yoghurt.

I'm not sure mate. But I do know they can lay funny eggs when they just start.. I has shell-less egg and a very soft leathery one and one that looked like a golf ball. She now lays regularly and perfect formed eggs. Funly enough it was my Wyandotte cross austrolorp that did that too !

Pimm's....very dorky and 70s, enjoying somewhat of a revival at the moment. It's the perfect drink for a garden party...summery and not too heavy. I like mine in a tall glass with ice, orange juice, a dash of lemonade and a sliver or two of cucumber. Heaven!

Spring or autumn I'd assume. But I think ash was referring to how hot it is and that eggs won't survive the heat and transport by post.

Does it coincide with pullets being ready to lay just before Winter so that they lay right through?

I send eggs year round. Lately mostly quail eggs and I find cold effects them more than heat. Maybe it is where I live is so hot that heat really doesn't make all that much difference . I guess we will see soon Sam ...

My sizzles babies have been spoken for lol. A neighbour was down before and said he would like them so in a week or so they will be off up the road.. 11 down and now the rest to go lol.

I don't post eggs at this time of year. Most people want their pullets to be at point of lay around Xmas or not long after. If you set your eggs too late in the season your hens will come into pol heading into the depths of winter, and depending on the breed and how cold it gets where you live, you may miss out on eggs until spring.So I sell the majority of eggs from August- nov. I go to great lengths to keep my eggs below 16. C, the last thing I want is for them to sit in the baking sun in some Aus post van. I have chicks hatching now, but they are for my own personal use and in all honesty up until mid December I was still trying to fill orders.
Now everyone is free ranging and chillin out. I need 5 dozen eggs for the weekend ( we donate them to showjumping tas for the egg & bacon rolls ), I'm well on my way, with 2 doz collected so far. It's hot here today so I'd better go collect eggs before they are hard boiled.
