1) When do I put my desired breeders together to get desired eggs?
2) When do I incubate these eggs so they are ready to hatch in relation with the right time of year???


I have gone with the set up of having a pure bred White Leghorn flock ( backyard quality ) and selling those eggs all year round or when ever.
Then have my breeder pens for my quality stock and when I want their eggs for improving my line or selling quality eggs I can select the right eggs from the right pairs/ trios. But I want to know when to do this ( what seasons and months ? )?

I send eggs year round. Lately mostly quail eggs and I find cold effects them more than heat. Maybe it is where I live is so hot that heat really doesn't make all that much difference .

Does it coincide with pullets being ready to lay just before Winter so that they lay right through?

Sorry Lucas I don't know. Maybe Ash can help when he is on next.... I was told a rooster is most fertile around August So I would suggest and please note that SUGGEST can be over ruled by more in the know people that August would be best to incubate for your purposes of flock improvement and expansion

If your hatching at home Luke it really doesn't matter. Put them together whenever you want. I have been known to still hatch in the middle of winter here.
Time of year is I guess when it suits you here... I think leghorns lay young right so I would work on the average of 23 weeks from when you incubate them they will lay. See when that suits you to have them laying.

In America it does depend on your climate as it is so varied over there but they still have set season when to hatch and breed etc.

Yes mostly or it is in qld Luke anyways. Ash can probably tell you the best time to hatch if there is one. He has been doing this much longer than me .

Again no silkie expert but with a comb that size at 13 weeks I will say chick A is a rooster.
Chick B may also be a rooster but still not sure.

I really hope there is some way of keeping them!!

No chance of keeping a rooster, we live smack bang in the middle of suburbia on a 630 odd square metre residential allotment.
Anyway, I am not making any decisions until I hear a crow or see an egg.
I will keep you posted as to which event occurs!
